At the reception, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung respectfully welcomed and thanked the working delegation for their visit, while providing an overview of An Giang Province following its merger from the two former provinces of An Giang and Kiên Giang, implementing the two-tier local government model.
Accordingly, the province covers an area of about 10,000 km², with an economic growth rate ranking first in the Mekong Delta region. The economic structure is shifting in a positive direction, in which the service-tourism sector accounts for about 46%, and agriculture, forestry, and fisheries make up about 33%.

The province has clearly identified its advantages in developing tourism services, agriculture, and processing industries, while also opening up many opportunities to strengthen cooperation with Chinese partners in the coming time. An Giang has a system of 3 international border gates and 2 main border gates adjacent to the Kingdom of Cambodia, along with a vast sea area, creating favorable conditions for developing border trade and the marine economy.
In particular, the province is focusing on preparations for the 2027 APEC Summit to be held in Phu Quoc. On this occasion, the provincial leaders requested that the Consulate General of China support in connecting and facilitating An Giang’s delegation to participate in APEC 2026 activities in China, in order to learn from their organizational experience.

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also emphasized that the locality is home to four ethnic groups living together in solidarity: Kinh, Hoa, Cham, and Khmer; among them, the Hoa community has made many positive contributions to the province’s socio-economic development. The province has always paid attention to promoting and fostering the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and China, based on the foundation of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.
Regarding economic cooperation, Chinese tourists visiting An Giang, especially Phu Quoc, currently rank second among all international visitors. The province’s annual agricultural exports to China exceed USD 200 million. The province has 7 FDI enterprises, mainly invested by Hong Kong and Taiwan. Notably, during preparations for APEC 2027, Vietnamese enterprises signed cooperation agreements with Chinese partners to implement the urban railway project and interior decoration for the APEC Conference Center.
An Giang Province hopes to continue receiving support from the Consulate General of China in connecting and expanding cooperation, especially in the fields of logistics, tourism, infrastructure investment, and agricultural processing, contributing to promoting the locality’s socio-economic development.
Speaking at the reception, Consul General of China in Ho Chi Minh City Duong Lap congratulated the success of the 14th National Party Congress and the 1st Session of the 16th National Assembly, and also congratulated Comrade Ho Van Mung on being elected to the Party Central Committee and assuming the position of Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee.
The Consul General emphasized that under the high-level leadership of the two countries, the Vietnam–China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership continues to be strengthened and developed extensively. Recent high-level visits, especially the visit to China by General Secretary To Lam, hold significant importance and contribute to promoting the traditional friendship and building a community with a shared future between the two countries.
Comrade Duong Lap stated that over the past 3 years, China has been the largest source of international tourists to Vietnam, with growth of 12% to 15% per year. Highly appreciating the tourism potential of Phu Quoc, especially with its visa exemption policy, the Chinese side wishes to continue cooperation to make tourism an even stronger sector, bringing practical benefits to An Giang.

In addition, the two sides have great potential for cooperation in green development, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and logistics. The Chinese side is also interested in promoting enterprises to invest in logistics infrastructure to shorten cargo transportation time and improve export efficiency.
The Consul General affirmed that this visit aims to explore, connect, and expand cooperation with An Giang Province; thereby leveraging the advantages of each side, contributing to promoting economic development, improving people’s livelihoods, and deepening effective cooperation between the two sides.
