Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ngo Cong Thuc received and worked with the World Bank delegation

(AG Provincial E-Portal) - On March 10th, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ngo Cong Thuc received and worked with a delegation from the World Bank led by Ms. Julia M. Fraser, Regional Director for East Asia and the Pacific Region.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ngo Cong Thuc stated that in the context of increasingly complex climate change, which has profound impacts on production, life, and livelihoods of people, especially in the upstream and coastal areas of the Mekong Delta, the preparation and implementation of the Mekong Delta Climate Resilience and Integrated Transformation Project (MERIT/WB11) and the Sustainable Fisheries Development Project (SFDP), which are inter-regional, integrated, and highly adaptable, are extremely necessary and urgent.

An Giang province identifies the MERIT - WB11 Project and the SFDP Project as two projects of particular importance, receiving close attention and guidance from the Government, central ministries and agencies, and high expectations from the people of the province.

According to Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ngo Cong Thuc, when formed and implemented, these projects will contribute to the sustainable development of livelihoods in each ecological sub-region; increase income and improve people's lives through investment in essential infrastructure; technological innovation; strengthening management capacity and production organization; and developing agriculture and fisheries towards increasing added value, deep international integration, environmental friendliness, and effective adaptation to climate change.

At the same time, it creates an important foundation to promote green growth, circular economy, and sustainable development model transformation in An Giang province in the coming period.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ngo Cong Thuc expressed his hope that the World Bank would continue to accompany and provide technical and financial support so that the MERIT-WB11 project and the SFDP project could be implemented soon, bringing practical benefits to people in the coastal and upstream areas of An Giang, thereby contributing to green growth, circular economy and sustainable development of the entire Mekong Delta region.

According to the report, the MERIT - WB11 Project has a total investment capital of VND 2,860 billion, equivalent to USD 113.54 million; the project aims to enhance the climate resilience of agricultural production and rural communities in An Giang province. The investment implementation period is from 2026 to 2029.

The SFDP project has a total investment of over 623 billion VND (2024 - 2028), aiming to develop infrastructure in shrimp hatchery areas and brackish water shrimp farming areas to improve shrimp productivity and quality, and protect the environment.
