(AG Provincial E-Portal) - On the morning of February 26th, Mr. Ho Van Mung, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, chaired a conference to implement the economic growth scenario for Sector I in 2026 in the province.

The conference was attended by leaders from departments, agencies, businesses, cooperatives, outstanding farmers and business owners, and connected online with communes, wards, and special zones throughout the province. According to the 2026 growth scenario for Sector I, An Giang focuses on promoting high-tech, ecological, and value-linked agriculture, striving to achieve over 54,300 billion VND.

According to the socio-economic development plan for the period 2026-2030, An Giang aims for a GRDP growth rate of 10.71% in 2026, striving to exceed 11%. In particular, Sector I (agriculture, forestry, and fisheries) is identified as a crucial pillar, contributing an estimated value of nearly VND 54,400 billion at comparable prices, accounting for over 30% of the province's economic structure.
According to the growth scenario assigned by the Provincial People's Committee, the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector aims for a growth rate of 4% or higher in 2026. The value structure shows that agriculture continues to play a leading role with over 31,500 billion VND, followed by fisheries with over 22,600 billion VND and forestry with approximately 200 billion VND.
In the agricultural sector, An Giang aims for a rice production of approximately 8.8 million tons. Specifically, the area participating in the 1 million hectare high-quality, low-emission rice project reached 183,000 hectares, an increase of over 22% compared to the previous year, contributing to raising the high-quality rice production to over 6 million tons.
In the fisheries sector, a breakthrough is expected, with a total output exceeding 1.6 million tons. Aquaculture accounts for a large proportion and is experiencing positive growth, especially high-tech marine farming in the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone, Ha Tien Ward, and Kien Hai Special Economic Zone. To date, the province has approved investment in many large-scale marine farming projects, covering thousands of hectares and aiming for tens of thousands of tons of output annually, contributing to a sustainable shift in the production structure.

According to Mr. Le Huu Toan, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, to achieve the growth targets in the sector, key projects are being implemented synchronously, such as: the Project on Developing High-Tech, Clean Agriculture Linked with Processing and Manufacturing Industries; the Project on Restructuring the Province's Agriculture Sector to Achieve Green Growth, Ensure Food Security, Adapt to Climate Change, and Integrate into the International Market; the Project on Developing An Giang into a National Maritime Economic Center; and the Plan for Sustainable Development of 1 Million Hectares of High-Quality, Low-Emission Rice Specialization Linked to Green Growth…
The province is promoting value chain linkages, building and developing stable raw material areas linking production with deep processing and export; strengthening the management of planting areas, traceability, disease forecasting and prevention, forest protection and climate change adaptation; focusing on resolving difficulties and obstacles related to land to create development areas connected with marine aquaculture projects; and harmonizing planning between areas attracting businesses and areas for stable, long-term production for people, linked with sustainable occupational transformation.

At the conference, many delegates exchanged ideas on promoting production linkages along the value chain for each key product group; assessing and analyzing opportunities and challenges, and proposing solutions for the development of rice, fisheries, livestock, and marine economy sectors in 2026 and subsequent years in the province.

In his remarks at the conference, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung affirmed that An Giang has great advantages in developing agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, especially in the exploitation and cultivation of aquatic products, with enormous potential, particularly in aquaculture such as catfish farming, brackish water shrimp farming, and marine aquaculture.
To achieve the economic growth targets for Sector I in 2026, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested that departments, agencies, and localities closely adhere to the set growth scenario; proactively coordinate and resolve difficulties for businesses in production and agricultural production; and strengthen investment promotion and attraction in the deep processing sector to increase product value.
Research and application of science and technology needs more priorities into the agricultural and aquatic product sectors, especially digital transformation and post-harvest preservation technology; focusing on developing a green economy and circular economy; strengthening the role of businesses in linking agricultural product consumption and processing, increasing added value and income for farmers .
