(AG Provincial E-Portal) -On March 7 and 8, the An Giang Provincial Department of Education and Training organized the Finals of the English Oratory Contest for primary, lower secondary, and upper secondary school levels.

The finals of the English Oratory Contest were held at two examination clusters located in Rach Gia Ward and Long Xuyen Ward. The contest attracted 236 contestants in total, including 94 primary school students, 94 lower secondary school students, and 48 upper secondary school students. These were outstanding representatives selected from the preliminary rounds of the English Oratory Contest at the cluster level (for upper secondary schools) and at the commune, ward, and special zone levels (for primary and lower secondary schools).
In the finals, contestants drew lots to receive a compulsory topic (a question or scenario), delivered their presentation, and then responded to questions from the judging panel related to the content of their presentation. The topics revolved around the 2018 National General Education Curriculum applicable to each respective school level.
As a result, the Organizing Committee awarded 10 first prizes, 36 second prizes, and 45 third prizes to contestants who achieved outstanding results at the contest. Specifically, the primary school level received 4 first prizes, 15 second prizes, and 18 third prizes; the lower secondary school level received 4 first prizes, 14 second prizes, and 18 third prizes; and the upper secondary school level received 2 first prizes, 7 second prizes, and 9 third prizes.
According to Deputy Director of the An Giang Provincial Department of Education and Training Huynh Van Hoa, enhancing students' English language proficiency is one of the key priorities of the education sector, contributing to the achievement of the goals of fundamental and comprehensive educational reform.
In recent years, the An Giang provincial education sector has consistently focused on directing efforts to improve the quality of foreign language teaching and learning in schools. The English Oratory Contest is not only a valuable academic platform but also an opportunity for students to demonstrate their language ability, critical thinking, confidence, and composure. At the same time, the contest provides schools with an occasion to share experiences in innovating foreign language teaching and learning methods, thereby contributing to the enhancement of overall educational quality.
