(AG Provincial E-Portal) - As part of the Mekong Connect Forum 2024's series of events, on the afternoon of December 17, 2024, in An Giang, a workshop with the theme on "Developing indigenous resources and local economy through regional linkages in the new competitive context" has taken place with the participation of many experts, businesses and representatives of localities in the Mekong Delta region and Ho Chi Minh City.
Attending the event were Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Phuoc; Ms. Vu Kim Hanh, President of the Business Association of High-Quality Vietnamese Goods; Experts; Representatives of leaders of departments and branches from provinces and cities and Enterprises of the Association of High-Quality Vietnamese Goods from localities across the country.
Speaking at the workshop, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Phuoc emphasized the role of Mekong Connect, an annual forum originating from the ABCD Mekong regional connectivity initiative, in connecting the Mekong Delta provinces with Ho Chi Minh City and the whole country. This year, the event has the participation of new provinces such as Vinh Long and Hau Giang, with a focus on promoting economic, trade and technological cooperation towards sustainable development.
Mr. Le Van Phuoc shared that An Giang province aims to become the center of rice and freshwater aquaculture in the region, while promoting the development of key agricultural products such as pangasius, vegetables, fruit trees, medicinal herbs and edible mushrooms. The province aims to increase refined processing, diversify products, and increase added value according to a closed supply chain. At the same time, he expressed his hope that this workshop will create conditions for experts, localities and businesses to discuss and share solutions on sustainable agriculture, combating climate change and developing regional economic value chains.
Many practical contents were presented at the Workshop, such as exploiting the potential of medicinal herbs in An Giang, increasing the export value of coconuts in Ben Tre with new technology and the IMO model combining agriculture - environment - startups in Dong Thap. At the same time, outstanding projects such as the value chain of climate change-resistant trees and the sustainable durian growing model were introduced. Issues of green agricultural finance, natural livelihoods and the development of floating seasonal paddy were also discussed.
The workshop provided many practical solutions, opening up opportunities for cooperation between localities and businesses, not only to effectively exploit the potentials of local resources but also to promote closer regional connectivity. The initiatives and models shared here not only help enhance local economic value but also contribute to responding to climate change, towards sustainable development and increasing the competitiveness of the Mekong Delta region in the new context./.
