An Giang mobilizes over 8 billion VND to organize the “Military–Civilian Tet” celebration for the 2026 Chol Chnam Thmay Traditional New Year

(AG Provincial E-Portal) - On the evening of April 10, at the Party Committee hall of Hon Dat commune, the Steering Committee for “Military–Civilian Tet” Activities of An Giang Province organized the closing ceremony of the “Military–Civilian Tet” Programme celebrating the 2026 Chol Chnam Thmay Traditional New Year, under the theme “An Giang’s Military and Civilians Celebrate Chol Chnam Thmay 2026.”

In attendance at the closing ceremony were Mr. Le Van Phuoc, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee and Head of the Provincial Steering Committee for “Military–Civilian Tet” Activities; Colonel Le Hoang Giu, Deputy Head of the Political Department of Military Region 9; leaders of provincial agencies, departments, and sectors; members of the Provincial Steering Committee for “Military–Civilian Tet” Activities; along with a large number of officers and soldiers from the armed forces, representatives of agencies, units, and enterprises, sponsors, and residents of Hon Dat commune.

Over the course of its implementation, the programme mobilized total resources of over 8 billion VND and carried out numerous practical projects and tasks, contributing to a visible transformation of the rural landscape of Hon Dat Commune. Among the highlights were the construction of 50 houses for poor households, near-poor households, and policy-beneficiary families (exceeding the target by 10 units), at a total cost of over 3 billion VND; and the completion of 8 rural transport bridges (exceeding the target by 5 bridges), at a total cost of more than 2.38 billion VND.

In addition, the programme effectively implemented a wide range of civilian welfare activities, including: a high-quality rice cultivation model valued at 500 million VND; the construction of 3 km of illuminated road and 11 km of rural flower-lined roads; and the provision of 100 water filtration devices and 100 water storage containers for local residents.

In the field of social welfare, wide-ranging activities were organized at a cost of over 1 billion VND for free medical examinations and medicine distribution; approximately 1,000 gift packages were presented to poor households, 700 to 1,000 gift packages to disadvantaged residents, 40 scholarships, and numerous practical gifts such as bicycles and school supplies — all contributing to helping local people celebrate the traditional New Year in a warm and meaningful atmosphere.

Alongside the various projects and tasks, the programme also organized numerous cultural, artistic, and sporting activities imbued with Khmer cultural identity, such as art performances, folk dance, five-instrument music (pin peat), and a banh tet rice cake wrapping contest, creating a joyful and festive atmosphere among the population during the Chol Chnam Thmay celebrations.

Notably, the provincial armed forces played a pivotal and active role, directly contributing thousands of working days to assist the local population in building houses, constructing bridges, repairing roads, and beautifying the environment. This further strengthened the solidarity between the military and civilian communities, contributing to the consolidation of the “people’s hearts and minds defence posture.”

At the ceremony, the Provincial Steering Committee for “Military–Civilian Tet” Activities announced the decision assigning Go Quao Commune the responsibility of organizing the “Military–Civilian Tet” Activities for Chol Chnam Thmay 2027, continuing to spread this effective civic engagement model and contributing to the building of a new rural area and the consolidation of national defence and security in the locality.

On this occasion, the Organizing Committee presented 50 gift packages to reserve force soldiers, self-defence militia members, and policy-beneficiary Khmer families facing hardship, and awarded 20 scholarships to academically outstanding poor students of Khmer ethnicity.
