Vinh Te Canal was manually excavated using rudimentary tools over a five-year period (1819–1824). It is a historically significant project with substantial economic, political, and military value, particularly in terms of international relations. Today, the canal runs along the Vietnam–Cambodia border, extending from Chau Doc City to Giang Thanh District in Kien Giang Province. It is 91 kilometers long, 25 meters wide, and 3 meters deep. The segment of the canal that lies within An Giang Province spans approximately 46.5 kilometers. The canal begins at the Chau Doc River, with one bank located in Vinh Nguon Ward and the other in Chau Phu B Ward.

Under Decision No. 102/QD-UBND dated January 22, 2025, the An Giang Provincial People’s Committee officially recognized Vinh Te Canal (Vinh Nguon Ward) as a provincial-level historical site. Prior to that, in 2024, the canal was recognized by the Vietnam Records Organization as the longest manually dug canal along Vietnam's border region.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nguyen Trung Thanh, Deputy Director of the An Giang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, extended congratulations to the Party and people of Chau Doc City on having another site officially recognized as a provincial historical landmark. He emphasized that this was a meaningful event that affirms and honors the historical value of Vinh Te Canal.Looking ahead, local authorities are encouraged to direct relevant agencies to preserve and promote the canal’s historical value.

This includes establishing a Management Board for the site to ensure its protection in accordance with legal regulations. Efforts should be made to enhance public awareness and community participation in preserving the canal, keeping it clean, well-maintained, and dignified—truly worthy of the heritage passed down by the ancestors.
