(AG Provincial E-Portal) - On the morning of February 23rd, the An Giang Provincial Election Commission held an online meeting on the preparations for the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and deputies to the People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term in the province.
The meeting was chaired by Mr. Ho Van Mung, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, and Chairman of the Provincial Election Commission. Also attending were Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, and Vice Chairman of the Provincial Election Commission; Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Ms. Le Hong Tham, Standing Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Council; and members of the Provincial Election Commission.
According to the report of the Provincial Election Commission, after the third round of consultations, the Provincial Election Commission compiled a list of candidates for the 16th National Assembly in each electoral unit and reported it to the National Election Council. The Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees of communes, wards, and special zones organized the third round of consultations, ensuring 100% completion as stipulated by law.
The Standing Committee of the National Assembly has determined that An Giang province will elect 21 deputies to the 16th National Assembly, including 10 deputies nominated by the Central Government and 11 deputies residing and working in the province, nominated by the local authorities.
For the 11th term of the Provincial People's Council, 2026-2031, according to Resolution No. 285/NQ-TTHDND, it is projected that 85 delegates will be elected; the number of official candidates is 143. At the commune level, after the third round of consultations, the number of delegates to be elected is 2,449, and the number of candidates is 4,500.
As of January 31, 2026, all 102/102 People's Committees of communes, wards, and special zones have approved the voter lists and publicly posted them at the commune-level People's Committee headquarters and public locations in the polling areas as prescribed. An Giang province has 2,712 polling areas, with over 3.8 million voters participating in the election.
By February 16th, 2026, all 102 communes, wards, and special zones have completed equipment safety checks to connect with the Election Information Management Software System for election purposes.
In his directive speech, Chairman of the Provincial Election Commission Ho Van Mung assessed that the preparations for the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and deputies to the People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term in the province are proceeding according to schedule. In particular, the third round of consultations has been conducted earlier than planned, even before Binh Ngo Lunar New Year 2026.
Chairman of the Provincial Election Commission Ho Van Mung requested that local election commissions hold meetings immediately to assess the work and progress of the election; review difficulties and obstacles; and report to the Department of Home Affairs by the end of the afternoon. He also instructed them to continue carefully reviewing the political qualifications of candidates, especially at the commune, ward, and special zone levels; in order to avoid including unqualified individuals on the list of candidates.
It is necessary to focus on strengthening election information and propaganda work, and election preparation at the provincial and local levels, creating a festive atmosphere for the entire population to participate in the election, so that voters can fully exercise their rights and responsibilities as citizens. The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province will develop a plan and schedule for voter outreach and campaigning; and guide candidates on how to develop and present their action programs at voter outreach meetings.
According to the Chairman of the Provincial Election Commission, Ho Van Mung, regulations and rules for interacting with voters are needed to prevent representatives from "monopolizing the stage" or exploiting election campaigns to promote themselves or businesses. The use of public property, money, or gifts for election campaigning in violation of the law is absolutely prohibited.
The Department of Home Affairs and local authorities shall fully prepare the necessary facilities, complete the preparation of ballot boxes, printing of ballots, voter cards, and voting regulations this week. The Provincial Police shall coordinate with local authorities to carefully review and post voter lists; comparing actual data with VNeID data to ensure accuracy. At the same time, they shall continue to implement plans to ensure political security and social order for the election .
