(AG Provincial E-Portal) - On June 10, the An Giang Department of Agriculture and Environment held a conference to review the implementation of the crop restructuring plan—shifting from inefficient rice cultivation to vegetables, other crops, and fruit trees - across An Giang Province during the 2021–2025 period. The event also aimed to outline the strategic direction for the 2026–2030 period. Vice Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People’s Committee, Mr. Ngo Cong Thuc, attended and delivered directive remarks.

During the 2021–2025 period, the province converted 23,224.6 hectares out of a planned 34,081.6 hectares, achieving 68.1% of the set target. Of this, more than 15,031 hectares were converted to various vegetables, 5,002 hectares to melons and gourds, and 3,190 hectares to fruit trees.
In parallel, An Giang’s agricultural sector issued 619 planting area codes covering over 21,780 hectares, including 515 codes (15,649 hectares) designated for export markets. The sector also enhanced support for consumption linkages, facilitating the marketing of approximately 16,051 hectares of vegetables and about 6,335 hectares of fruit crops.
Looking ahead to the 2026–2030 period, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, Mr. Ngo Cong Thuc, instructed the An Giang Department of Agriculture and Environment to continue working with relevant departments and localities to advise the Provincial People’s Committee on issuing a formal decision on crop restructuring for 2026–2030—following the implementation of the two-tier administrative system. Priority should be given to investment in and completion of irrigation and inter-field transportation infrastructure to effectively support crop restructuring.
In addition, provincial departments and agencies were tasked with strengthening connections with enterprises to attract investment in warehousing and post-harvest processing facilities. They were also encouraged to organize agricultural fairs and trade events to link businesses and cooperatives with supermarket chains, convenience stores, and e-commerce platforms. At the local level, authorities must enhance state management over crop restructuring, develop and issue annual crop restructuring plans in accordance with regulations, and step up public awareness efforts to mobilize farmers to actively and effectively participate in the crop restructuring process in the new period.
