(AG Provincial E-Portal) - On May 14th, in the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long and his delegation held a working session with An Giang province regarding the implementation of power generation and transmission projects in the revised National Power Development Plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.

Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang province, Nguyen Thanh Phong, welcomed and worked with the delegation. Also present were Deputy Director of the Electricity General Department Bui Quoc Hung; Deputy General Director of the Southern Power Corporation Dao Hoa Binh; leaders of provincial departments and agencies, and the People's Committee of Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone.
Ensuring absolutely no power shortages in Phu Quoc
During the meeting, An Giang province reported on the implementation of power generation and transmission projects in An Giang province under the revised Power Plan VIII; the Department of Industry and Trade, the Southern Power Corporation, and related units determined the progress, reported on difficulties and obstacles in the implementation of the projects, and proposed solutions to overcome them.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long assessed that the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone is developing at a remarkable pace, becoming a bright spot attracting investment in the region. He stated that the power infrastructure projects serving the APEC 2027 Summit in Phu Quoc are a particularly important political task, requiring the electricity sector and local authorities to absolutely ensure there is no power shortage.
To ensure the energy infrastructure for the APEC 2027 Summit and the people, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long requested that departments, agencies, and localities proactively coordinate closely with the electricity sector to synchronously implement power generation and grid projects. Priority should be given to developing renewable energy sources, focusing on promoting wind and solar power projects to supplement the national energy supply.
The Deputy Minister noted that the procedures and documentation for key power projects must comply with the correct order and regulations of the law; and that research and proposals should be submitted to competent authorities for consideration and decision.

On behalf of provincial leadership, Standing Vice Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Thanh Phong, received the directives and thanked the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Nguyen Hoang Long, and the delegation for their support, assistance, and guidance in helping the locality overcome obstacles in the implementation of power projects in the area.
Permanent Vice Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong expressed his hope that the Ministry of Industry and Trade and all levels and sectors would continue to pay attention, closely coordinate, and create favorable conditions in the planning and investment of energy infrastructure. This is an important foundation to help the locality create breakthroughs in socio-economic development, aiming to achieve double-digit economic growth in the coming time.
Investing over 2.16 trillion VND to upgrade the undersea power grid.
According to the Revised National Power Development Plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 (Revised Power Plan VIII), An Giang province is allocated a total power generation capacity of 1,154.5 MW for the period 2026-2030, including: wind power 456 MW, concentrated solar power 520 MW, biomass power 125 MW, and waste-to-energy power 49.5 MW.





Over the last period, the Provincial People's Committee has focused on directing departments, agencies, and localities to review and update the list of power source and grid projects into the An Giang Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050; and at the same time, develop a plan to implement the Adjusted Power Planning VIII in the province.
Currently, An Giang province has two biomass power projects with a total capacity of 70 MW that have been approved by the Provincial People's Committee for investment, including: An Giang 1 Biomass Power Plant (50 MW) and Nui To I Biomass Power Plant (20 MW); bidding to select investors is currently underway according to regulations.
Four wind and solar power projects with a total capacity of approximately 570 MW have attracted investors’ interest and proposals, including: Giang Thanh shrimp pond solar power plant (400 MW); An Giang solar power plant (80 MW); An Cu solar power plant (40 MW); and An Giang 1 wind power plant (50 MW).
According to the Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC), An Giang province is supplied with electricity from the national power grid through 4 220kV substations with a total installed capacity of 2,000MVA. In addition, there are 3 solar power plants with a total capacity of 310MWp feeding into the 110kV grid.
Currently, EVNSPC manages 28 substations with an installed capacity of 2,048 MVA, comprising 46 transformers, and 3 dedicated customer substations with 170 MVA. The 110kV transmission lines comprise 44 routes, totaling 950.64 km.
EVNSPC is currently implementing the Phu Quoc 220 kV Substation project, with a capacity of 2x250 MVA and 2x19 km of connecting 220 kV transmission lines, with a total investment of 877 billion VND. This is a crucial project to convert the operating voltage level to 220 kV for the Kien Binh – Phu Quoc transmission line, increasing the power supply capacity to 500 MVA.
Simultaneously, the Phu Quoc – South Phu Quoc 110kV power line project is being implemented, with a scale of 2x20km (2.6km underground cable) and a total investment of 934 billion VND; the Phu Quoc – North Phu Quoc 110kV power line project is being implemented, with a scale of 2x21km and a total investment of 352.97 billion VND…



Earlier, on the afternoon of May 13th, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long and his delegation inspected power projects in the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone, including: the Phu Quoc 220 kV substation, the Phu Quoc – North Phu Quoc 110 kV transmission line, the Phu Quoc – South Phu Quoc 110 kV transmission line, and the Bai Truong 110 kV substation.
