An Giang records the Highest Economic Growth in the Mekong Delta

(AG Provincial E-Portal) - In 2025, An Giang Province’s socio-economic situation developed positively, with many sectors and fields recording high growth compared with the same period. According to figures released by the Statistics Office, An Giang’s economic growth in 2025 rose by 8.39%, ranking first in the Mekong Delta and 14th out of 34 provinces and centrally governed cities nationwide.

On December 29, the Provincial People’s Council held its 7th session (the regular year-end session for 2025) of the 10th-term An Giang Provincial People’s Council for the 2021–2026 term. At the session, on behalf of the Provincial People’s Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Le Trung Ho reported on the implementation of socio-economic development tasks in 2025 and the socio-economic development plan for 2026.

Vice Chairman Le Trung Ho said that socio-economic development in 2025 was positive, with many sectors and fields posting strong growth compared with the same period. According to the Statistics Office’s announcement, economic growth in 2025 increased by 8.39% (highest in the Mekong Delta and 14th out of 34 provinces and centrally governed cities nationwide). 

Of this, the agriculture-forestry-fisheries sector increased by 3.53%; the industry and construction sector rose by 12.88% (including an 11.97% increase in industry); the services sector grew by 10.61%; and taxes on products less subsidies on products increased by 7.10%.

In 2025, it is estimated that the province achieved and exceeded 24 out of 26 targets set out in the Provincial People’s Council’s resolution, including 11 targets exceeded and 13 targets met.

Total state budget revenue in 2025 is estimated at VND 25,188 billion. Budget expenditures were managed tightly, with thorough savings in recurrent spending, resources concentrated on development investment, and expenditures ensured for social welfare, national defense, security, and policies under Government Decree No. 178/2024/ND-CP and Decree No. 67/2025/ND-CP. Total budget expenditure in 2025 is estimated at VND 55,566 billion.

In 2025, the total number of tourist visits is estimated at over 24 million, including more than 1.9 million international visitors; total revenue is estimated at about VND 67,684 billion. Export turnover is estimated at USD 2,430 million, while import turnover is estimated at USD 598 million.

The province is concentrating on reviewing and adjusting the An Giang Provincial Planning for 2021–2030, with a vision to 2050, updating new development orientations in line with local characteristics and sectors in order to accelerate the pace of project implementation. It is also focusing on promoting urbanization associated with the development of the urban economy, stepping up investment in infrastructure, urban renewal, and improving the quality of urban management in key growth centers such as Long Xuyen, Rach Gia, Chau Doc, Ha Tien, and Phu Quoc. By 2025, the province’s urban system includes 38 out of 48 urban areas, with an urbanization rate of 45.40%, exceeding the plan by 2%.

Facilities and equipment for schools have received investment attention; digital transformation has been implemented for 100% of grassroots education institutions. Training and capacity building for human resources—especially high-quality human resources—have been strengthened to meet market demand. The trained labor rate reached 74%, meeting 100% of the plan, including a rate of 17.55% of workers trained with degrees or certificates. Training institutions have strengthened linkages, expanded scale and fields of study, strongly applied digital transformation, and renewed curricula and teaching methods…

The session also provided information on the settlement of voters’ petitions. The total number of petitions from voters before and after the mid-year regular session in 2025 was 207. Of these, 56 petitions were submitted before the session and 151 after the session.

All 207 out of 207 petitions were addressed or responded to, a rate of 100%. Specifically, 88 petitions were resolved or responded to (42.51%); 82 petitions are being processed (39.61%); 5 petitions fall under central authorities’ jurisdiction; and 32 petitions fall under commune-level authorities’ jurisdiction.

Through its review, the Legal Affairs Committee of the Provincial People’s Council noted that although this year the Provincial People’s Committee and agencies at all levels had to focus heavily on restructuring the organizational apparatus, provincial mergers, and the implementation of a two-tier local government model, they still paid close attention and provided decisive direction in addressing voters’ petitions.

Through the issuance of an official dispatch acknowledging explanations for voters’ petitions and assigning tasks to provincial departments, agencies, and units with relevant functions to provide explanations and advise the Provincial People’s Committee in resolving or responding to all petition contents, legitimate and lawful demands of voters were met, with a clearly classified annex and specific responses…/.
