An Giang and Takeo strengthen cooperation in multiple fields

(AG Provincial E-Portal) - On April 8th, a conference was held in Takeo Province to review the cooperation results of 2024 and set the direction for the first half of 2025 between An Giang Province (Vietnam) and Takeo Province (Kingdom of Cambodia). Leaders of various agencies, departments, and units also attended.

The conference was co-chaired by the alternate member of the Central Committee of the Party, Vice Secretary of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee, and Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Ho Van Mung, and the Governor of Takeo Province, Mr. Vei Samnang

At the conference, Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Ho Van Mung, and Governor of Takeo Province, Mr. Vei Samnang, highly appreciated the cooperation results of 2024 in areas such as border security, border management and demarcation, agriculture, trade, customs, culture, sports, health, education and training, transport, the search, retrieval, and repatriation of the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers, and the cooperation between border districts, towns, and cities, exchange of delegations, and mutual support. These efforts have contributed to strengthening the cooperative relationship between the two provinces, following the principle of "Good neighbors, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainable development.”

In the spirit of friendship and solidarity, An Giang and Takeo agreed on the tasks and cooperation directions for the first half of 2025, based on the principles of respecting the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of each country. Both sides will continue to effectively implement the 1983 National Border Regulation Agreement, the 1985 National Border Delimitation Treaty, the 2005 Additional Treaty, the 2019 Supplementary Treaty, the 2019 Land Border Demarcation Protocol between Vietnam and Cambodia, and the 1995 Joint Communiqué between the two countries. The full and sincere implementation of Point 8 of the Vietnam-Cambodia Joint Communiqué dated January 17, 1995, Article 5 of the 2005 Supplementary Treaty, and Article 2, Article 12 of the 2019 Border Demarcation Protocol will continue.

The leaders of the two provinces also agreed to request higher authorities to open the Vinh Gia - Ta O and Vinh Nguon - Kompong Krosang sub-border gates. An Giang Province will file a proposal to the Vietnamese government to upgrade the Bac Dai - Bak Dai sub-border gate to a main border gate to facilitate trade activities between the people of the two sides.

The two provinces also agreed to enhance efforts to protect and maintain security along the border, closely monitor border security situations, combat cross-border crime, and prevent illegal immigration and emigration. They will coordinate in joint border patrols, protect the border pillars, and inform each other before constructing any projects along the border to avoid impacting the boundary markers.

The border forces will continue to work together to ensure border security and stability, contributing to strengthening the Vietnam-Cambodia friendship and cooperation between the peoples of both sides. The two provinces will continue their agricultural cooperation, mutual support in trade promotion activities, organizing fairs, connecting trade, and maintaining good relations and cooperation in customs to facilitate cross-border trade. They will also continue to implement programs for searching, retrieving, and repatriating the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Cambodia during the war.

Furthermore, both sides will intensify their cooperation in mass organizations, education, culture, tourism, healthcare, transport, and other fields. Regular or ad-hoc meetings between the border localities will continue to exchange information to assess the overall situation and address any arising issues along the border, all in the spirit of unity and friendship.

On the occasion of the Cambodian people preparing for the celebration of the 2025 Chol Chnam Thmay New Year, on behalf of the Provincial Party Committee, Provincial People's Council, Provincial People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front of An Giang Province, and the people of An Giang, Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Ho Van Mung, extended best wishes to Governor Vei Samnang and his family, the leaders of Takeo Province, the armed forces, and the people of Takeo for good health, prosperity, and success in all endeavors. He also wished for the continued strengthening and sustainable development of the traditional friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Cambodia, and particularly between An Giang and Takeo./.
