Right from the beginning of summer, the Summer Activities Steering Committee from the province to the grassroots level has proactively developed a plan to organize activities, creating healthy, practical and useful playgrounds for young people. At the same time, it is important to promote propaganda and education activities on building moral awareness, awareness of law compliance; propaganda on preventing and fighting against malnutrition, drugs, social evils, drowning and injury for young people. In addition, it is necessary to increase classes to equip them with necessary skills to help them take care of and protect themselves, such as: "Learning to be a useful person", "Military semester", "Experiential journey", "Learning to be a farmer", "Learning from nature"... In addition, it is important to carry out activities to care for children in especially difficult circumstances, children of workers, children in remote, isolated and border communes.
To meet the children's entertainment needs during the summer, since the beginning of June, the Provincial Children's House, the Cultural, Sports and Broadcasting Centers of districts, towns and cities have opened many gifted classes and organized many competitions and performances attracting a large number of young people to participate. At the same time, organizing activities, opening many gifted classes with time slots for many subjects, such as: Soccer, martial arts, badminton, swimming, aerobics, painting, dancing, piano, calligraphy... Along with that, organizing more experiential courses, picnics, and life skills training for children, through hypothetical situations. This summer, Long Xuyen Karate Martial Arts Club is recruiting students for free training. Children aged 5 to 16 can register to attend classes at 2 places: Le Van Nhung Primary School (Monday, Wednesday, Friday every week) or at the Cultural, Sports and Broadcasting Center of the Long Xuyen City (every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday), from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. “Through these classes, we want to introduce Karate to children. At the same time, help them improve their health and self-defense skills…” – coach Bui Thanh Tuoi shared.

Like many other parents in Long Xuyen City, Ms. Tran To Quyen (living in My Binh Ward) chose the Provincial Children’s House as the place to send her child to study and participate in activities this summer. “Every summer, I register my child for drawing, calligraphy and sports classes. Such healthy and practical recreational activities will help children improve their health, learn knowledge and skills beyond books, improve their personality and develop comprehensively,” Ms. Quyen shared.
In recent years, “Military Semester” has become an extracurricular program chosen by many parents when summer comes. After studying in a disciplined environment, the “young soldiers” are equipped with basic military knowledge, such as: bandaging skills, first aid for wounds, first aid for drowning victims, using life buoys; physical training, learning about guns, self-defense skills, outdoor marching with sightseeing activities, experiencing production labor… Thereby, creating a useful playground, educating ethics, lifestyle, training environment in the army, discipline, responsibility, and perseverance to overcome difficulties for young people. Currently, An Giang Provincial Youth Union is coordinating with Division 330 to organize enrollment for the 2025 military semester class, for young people from 11 to 17 years old, in good health. The event is scheduled to take place from June 21 to 28 at Regiment 3, Division 330. “I have just registered my son to participate in the military semester, organized by the Provincial Youth Union. I hope that after 1 week as a “soldier”, my son will have experiences about life as well as training in awareness, style, and activities in the army…” – said Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh (residing in My Xuyen ward, Long Xuyen city).
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, Head of the Provincial Summer Activities Steering Committee Le Van Phuoc suggested: Summer Activities Steering Committees at all levels should proactively coordinate with member sectors in directing and implementing practical programs and activities suitable to the local and unit realities. In particular, it is necessary to focus on synchronously implementing youth management and education activities during the summer; preventing violence, child abuse, preventing child injuries, preventing youth from violating the law; organizing recreational and entertainment activities, creating equal development opportunities for children. Summer activities must be diverse, rich, and creative with many good models and new ways to attract youth and students to participate. In particular, when organizing activities, it is necessary to pay attention to children in difficult circumstances, disadvantaged children, children with disabilities, children infected with HIV/AIDS, in remote areas, areas with ethnic minority children…, to help them overcome their inferiority complex and integrate into the community…./.
