The two-phase pangasius farming model was implemented across 5.3 hectares in An Giang and Dong Thap provinces, involving nine participating households. The process adhered to the standards outlined in Decision 06/QD-SNNPTNT by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang, focusing on raising pangasius from fry to fingerlings in earthen ponds.

With a stocking density of 500 fry per square meter, the model achieved notable success, improving the survival rate of fry to 15.68%. It emphasized stringent disease control measures, contributing to environmental protection, and reducing reliance on medication and environmental treatment chemicals. These improvements translated to a significant increase in household income—an average of 16.78% higher than traditional farming methods.

The project also established consumption contracts with NEWSTAR Seafood Import-Export Company Limited (Chau Phu District, An Giang Province) and the Hong Tam Pangasius Club (Dong Thap Province), ensuring stable market access for the participants.

Following its success, the An Giang Agricultural Extension Center expanded the model to include 15 households across Phu Tan, Chau Thanh, Thoai Son, and An Phu districts, covering a total of 16.83 hectares. In Dong Thap, the initiative was extended to six households in Hong Ngu City and Tan Hong District, covering an additional three hectares.

The two-phase pangasius farming model demonstrates a promising pathway for sustainable aquaculture, providing economic benefits to farmers while ensuring environmental sustainability and strengthening market linkages.
