(AG Provincial E-Portal) - According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang, by the end of August, the total rice cultivation area in 2025 of the province was nearly 1.3 million hectares, reaching 95.5% of the plan, including: Winter-Spring, Summer-Autumn and Autumn-Winter rice. Of which, the harvested rice area was 961,154 hectares, with an output of nearly 6.5 million tons, reaching 73.7% of the yearly plan.

Currently, the province is focusing on monitoring, caring for, and harvesting the remaining 136,309 hectares of Summer-Autumn rice in the fields and completing the planting of 261,500 hectares of Autumn-Winter rice (198,673 hectares have been sown) so that the rice harvest in 2025 will reach and exceed the plan of over 8.8 million tons.
In addition, implementing the project "Sustainable development of 1 million hectare of high-quality, low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030", up to now, the whole province has implemented 56 pilot models with a total area of 1,494 hectares, of which, the 2024-2025 Summer-Spring crop and Winter-Spring crop implemented 50 points, with an area of 1,026 hectares, and the 2025 Summer-Autumn crop implemented 6 points, with an area of 468 hectares. The pilot sites implementing this model have completed harvesting. Results show an average reduction in rice production costs of 4.12 million VND per hectare compared to the control fields. The average yield of fresh rice in the model fields reached 9.1 tons per hectare, which is 0.78 tons higher than the control fields. Profit increased by more than 9.3 million VND per hectare compared to the control.
Up to now, the total area of rice consumption contracts signed between enterprises and cooperatives and cooperative groups in the province is more than 92,658 hectares. Enterprises purchase products in the form of MRL residue management (maximum limit of pesticide residue remaining in rice after harvest) meeting export standards to the EU, Japan and organic rice markets at a price 200 - 400 VND/kg higher. In addition, the remaining rice is purchased by enterprises under agreements with cooperatives and cooperative groups at market prices or an additional 100 VND/kg. The province continues to support enterprises such as: Loc Troi Group Joint Stock Company, Tan Long Group Joint Stock Company, Angimex Kitoku Company Limited, Dai Duong Xanh, Angimex, Hoang Phat Fruit Company Limited, Antesco Company, A An Company... to carry out linkages in localities, large-scale field production associated with product consumption.
Next, in granting and managing rice growing area codes, the province has granted 743 codes with a total area of about 34,000 hectares, aiming to standardize rice production in a modern direction, trace product origin, control quality and food safety, export rice to other countries, especially demanding markets, and increase the competitiveness of An Giang rice in the international market.
Aiming for high-quality and sustainable agriculture, the province maintains research and selection of new rice varieties according to the goal of responding to climate change, high yield, good quality rice such as: fragrant, low amylose content, delicious rice, soft and sticky... to serve production; at the same time, produce super-original, certified and quality rice seeds to maintain and develop sources for propagation to serve the production of original and certified rice seeds.
Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang Province, Le Huu Toan, said that in order to achieve and exceed the 2025 rice harvest target of nearly 9 million tons, the functional branches and specialized units of the Department will closely coordinate with localities to strengthen propaganda and recommend measures to care for and protect rice production in the Summer-Autumn and Autumn-Winter crops of 2025 to achieve productivity and quality; Strengthen the investigation, estimation, forecasting, and notification of the situation of harmful organisms combined with propaganda and guidance on care, prevention, and control of diseases on rice plants; strengthen the update of weather and hydrological situations, and prepare response plans when high tides cause saltwater intrusion, flooding, and waterlogging, etc. to protect production during the rainy and stormy season.
At the same time, the province continues to implement the project "Sustainable development of 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030" in the area effectively and qualitatively.
The functional sector strengthens the work of consulting, guiding, supporting the issuance of rice growing area codes, tracing the origin of products to serve domestic consumption and export needs. At the same time, it also implements agricultural extension programs, especially the large-scale field model, expands the standard production area and promotes the construction of raw material areas to meet the needs of enterprises and serve processing and export./.
