(AG Provincial E-Portal) - On the morning of March 28, the Steering Committee for Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses in Long Xuyen City, An Giang Province held a summary of the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the city.

Responding to the emulation movement "Join hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide in 2025" of the Prime Minister and the call of the Central Committee Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, launched by the Provincial Party Committee and the People's Committee of An Giang province, with the message "Millions of loving hearts - thousands of happy roofs", the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in Long Xuyen city was launched in mid-December 2024.

With profound humanitarian meaning and tradition of love and mutual support, "The healthy leaves cover the torn leaves", Long Xuyen city has mobilized the participation of the entire political system, promoted the role of the solidarity nucleus of the city's Fatherland Front, wards and communes, connected businesses, organizations, and benefactors inside and outside the locality, creating huge resources to build and repair 60 houses, "reaching the finish line" 3 months earlier than the city's and the province's plan and 9 months earlier than the central plan.

Of the 60 houses, 42 were newly built and 18 were repaired; 4 were for people with revolutionary contributions (2 newly built and 2 repaired houses). The total cost of implementation was over 4.3 billion VND.

Notably, the funding source for building and repairing houses for households was agreed by the City Steering Committee to be spent from the local self-reliance and proactive social mobilization sources and advances from the Gratitude Fund (for policy households and meritorious people); it was not from support of the province and not 5% savings from the local budget, in order to support other localities having more difficulties.

Speaking at the Conference, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Le Van Nung praised Long Xuyen City as the first unit in the province to announce the completion of the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses with a proactive, creative and extremely impressive approach. He emphasized that he would report to the Provincial Steering Committee on this method and approach to have instructions to replicate it in the remaining districts and towns, contributing to the rapid completion of the program in the whole province, fulfilling the province's commitment to the Central Government as soon as possible.

He called on businesses and philanthropists to continue to pay attention and support to contribute to the program of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the province to soon be completed as planned. He requested the Fatherland Front, unions and organizations in the province to do a good job of propaganda so that everyone can support, share, and take responsibility for the community in caring for the material and spiritual lives of the people, especially the poor, the disadvantaged, and those in difficult circumstances, leaving no one behind. For families who have built new houses, they must preserve them well, try to work hard, and enrich their families and their homeland.

At the Conference, the Organizing Committee awarded Certificates of Merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and Certificates of Merit from the Chairman of the City People's Committee to many collectives and individuals who had outstanding achievements in the emulation movement "Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide in 2025" in Long Xuyen city.
