(AG Provincial E-Portal) - On December 23rd, in Chau Doc ward (An Giang province), the An Giang Agricultural Extension Center, in collaboration with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), organized a workshop to review the project “Developing a sustainable value chain for lotus silk products in Vietnam, to support the water storage strategy for the Mekong Delta” in 2025.
Accordingly, the project is being implemented in Vinh Te and Chau Doc wards and Vinh Xuong, Chau Phong communes, covering a total area of 40 hectares with 24 participating households. The project supports farmers with lotus cultivation techniques to provide raw materials for lotus silk extraction for weaving; partially subsidizes the cost of designing livelihood models combining rice cultivation, lotus farming, fish farming, and tourism development; and provides training in painting techniques on dried lotus leaves for farmers…

After participating in the project, households achieved profits exceeding 50 million VND/hectare from selling lotus seeds, lotus roots, and lotus flowers. Simultaneously, they gained knowledge on utilizing the diverse value of lotus to develop their economy, combining it with tourism during the flood season.
In addition, the project also helps to improve land, enhance the environment, and support water storage strategies for the Mekong Delta. Socially, the project helps create jobs for rural workers, strengthen community bonds, and establish sustainable farming models in localities throughout An Giang province.
