(AG Provincial E-Portal) - On the morning of March 18th, Mr. Ho Van Mung, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, led a working group to conduct a field survey at An Giang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital (Long Xuyen ward) and Tinh Bien Medical Center (Thoi Son ward).

At An Giang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung and the delegation surveyed the current state of infrastructure, especially the outpatient examination and treatment area and related technical facilities.

According to the report, the An Giang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital received investment from the Provincial People's Committee for the construction of the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Blocks. The operation and use of these facilities has significantly improved healthcare services for people both within and outside the province. Currently, the An Giang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital requires investment in infrastructure – Phase 3 – and renovation of existing buildings that have deteriorated over time. This aims to enhance service quality, create a clean and modern working and healthcare environment, and align with the hospital's long-term development plan, with a total estimated cost of over 62 billion VND.

During the survey, after hearing the Department of Health's report on the operational situation of An Giang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, as well as the difficulties and obstacles encountered, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Ho Van Mung, approved the plan to connect the technical infrastructure and renovate and repair the outpatient examination and treatment block - the external infrastructure and the buildings. He also requested the Department of Finance to allocate funds to ensure investment in the project, creating a spacious, clean, and well-equipped working and medical treatment environment that aligns with the hospital's long-term development orientation, aiming for high-quality medical services.

On the morning of the same day, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung and his delegation visited and inspected the Tinh Bien Medical Center. According to the report, the infrastructure of the Tinh Bien Medical Center, built in 1986, has seriously deteriorated. The examination and treatment rooms and restrooms are leaking and moldy; the structural columns, beams, and floors are peeling and cracking in many places. Overall, continued use does not ensure safety for the people or meet the medical needs of doctors and nurses. Investment in expanding the treatment block to 300 beds is necessary.

After conducting a field survey, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung emphasized that, given its role as a border area with trade, tourism, national defense and security, and an increasing demand for healthcare, Tinh Bien needs a sufficiently strong, large-scale, and technically capable treatment facility to serve the local population while reducing referrals to higher-level facilities and alleviating overcrowding.

Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung agreed in principle to the proposal to build a new treatment building and auxiliary facilities for Tinh Bien General Hospital with a capacity of 300 beds. According to the Chairman, this is a necessary need, has a practical basis, is consistent with the local development and aligns with the orientation to improve medical capacity in the border area in the coming period. Therefore, he requested the Department of Health and the Provincial Project Management Board to conduct an investment survey to expedite the construction of the treatment area to address the overcrowding of hospital beds and improve healthcare for local people and those in the Cambodian region. He also assigned the Department of Finance to review and ensure the allocation of budget funds for 2026 .
