(AG Provincial E-Portal) - The Provincial People's Committee has just issued Plan 977/KH-UBND on organizing the celebration on the 200th anniversary of Vinh Te Canal completion (1824 - 2024) and commemorating the 198th anniversary of Mrs. Chau Thi Te’s death (1826 - 2024).
According to Member of the Provincial Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Le Van Phuoc, the ceremony to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Vinh Te Canal completion (1824 - 2024) will be chaired by the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province; Chau Doc City People's Committee, Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and related departments and branches. The ceremony is expected to be held at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, November 14, at Vinh Dong Trade Center (Nui Sam Ward, Chau Doc City).
The traditional ceremonies to commemorate the 198th anniversary of Mrs. Chau Thi Te’s death (1826 - 2024) will be held at the National relic site of Thoai Ngoc Hau Tomb (Nui Sam Ward, Chau Doc City) by the Management Board of Nui Sam Temple. In particular, the regular ancestor worship ceremony will be at 4:00 p.m. on November 14 (October 14 of the lunar calendar); the main ancestor worship ceremony will be at 4:00 a.m. on November 15 (October 15 of the lunar calendar).
In addition, local leaders will organize activities to care for, visit, repay gratitude, social security, cultural - artistic activities, physical education - sports...; organize exhibition space, thematic exhibition "200 years of Vinh Te Canal - Historical values and achievements". In particular, a dossier will be prepared to propose the Vietnam Record Organization Vietkings to establish the Vietnam record for the nomination: "Vinh Te Canal - The longest manual canal in Vietnam".
Alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung said that the organization of activities to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Vinh Te Canal completion (1824 - 2024); the 198th anniversary of Mrs. Chau Thi Te’s death (1826 - 2024) is an event of great historical, cultural and educational significance in An Giang province. At the same time, it promotes and introduces the image of the land, people, typical and unique cultural values of the locality, serving the people and tourists coming to An Giang.
“The event marks the 200th anniversary on the completion of an important irrigation project of our ancestors, contributing greatly to the socio-economic development, national defense and security of An Giang province in particular and the Mekong Delta region in general. The 200th anniversary of Vinh Te canal completion is an opportunity for us to remember the great contributions of our ancestors in reclaiming and opening up the land and honoring Vinh Te canal - a large historical project, demonstrating the intelligence and creative labor of our ancestors. Thereby, encouraging the younger generation to preserve, maintain and further promote traditional values, arousing national pride" - Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung emphasized.
Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung requested departments, branches, localities and units to closely coordinate in preparation so that the activities will be organized solemnly, in accordance with the regulations of the Party and the State, and have profound political significance. At the same time, the contents must be practical, suitable to the actual conditions of the locality, creating conditions to serve the people safely, healthily and economically. On the other hand, mobilizing social resources must ensure compliance with legal regulations, resolutely preventing and combating corruption, negativity and waste. Previously, on May 27, 2024, the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) issued Decision 870/QD-BTTTT on the issuance of the postage stamp set on "Commemorating the 200th anniversary of Vinh Te Canal completion (1824 - 2024)". Stamp set code 1191, stamp sample code 3918; stamp size 66 x 26mm, stamp printed over the edge, designed by artist Nguyen Du. The stamp set was issued on May 28, 2024, and the supply period on the public postal network is from May 28, 2024 to December 31, 2025.
Then, on June 28, the Provincial People's Committee held a ceremony to announce the Decision of the Ministry of Information and Communications on the issuance of the postage stamp set on "Commemorating the 200th anniversary of Vinh Te Canal completion (1824 - 2024)". Director of the Department of Information and Communications Le Quoc Cuong said: "This is a postage stamp set marking the 200th anniversary on the completion of an important irrigation project of our ancestors, contributing greatly to the socio-economic development, national defense and security of An Giang province in particular and the Mekong Delta region in general. The issuance of the postage stamp set on "Commemorating the 200th anniversary of Vinh Te Canal completion (1824 - 2024)" has important historical, cultural and educational significance in An Giang. Thereby, to commemorate, affirm the merits and honor the great contributions of the famous General Thoai Ngoc Hau and the people in the construction of Vinh Te Canal; contributing to promoting the cultural and historical values of Vinh Te canal to domestic and international tourists, attracting investment resources for local tourism development".
Vinh Te Canal is nearly 91km long, connecting the west bank of Chau Doc River (An Giang Province) with Giang Thanh River (Ha Tien City, Kien Giang Province). The project was led by the famous General Nguyen Van Thoai (Thoai Ngoc Hau), started in 1819 under the reign of King Gia Long and completed in 1824 under the reign of King Minh Mang. Vinh Te Canal represents our ancestors' strategic vision in developing production, trade and protecting border sovereignty. Up to now, the canal still plays an important role in economic development, providing fresh water and alluvium for the agricultural sector of An Giang and the Long Xuyen quadrangle. In addition, the canal is also a place to receive flood water from the Mekong River, bringing abundant aquatic resources to local people. |
