(AG Provincial E-Portal) - According to the An Giang Provincial Department of Tourism, during the four-day New Year's holiday in 2026 (from January 1st to 4th), An Giang is estimated to have welcomed 348,778 visitors, an increase of 52.5% compared to the same period last year. Total revenue from tourism reached VND 859 billion, an increase of 71.2% compared to the same period last year.
Specifically, there were 30,284 international tourists, an increase of 48.6% compared to the same period; 318,494 domestic tourists, an increase of 52.8% compared to the same period; 261,893 visitors to tourist areas and attractions, an increase of 41.5% compared to the same period; and 86,885 overnight stays, an increase of 99.0% compared to the same period. The average room occupancy rate reached 61.65%, an increase of 92.7% compared to the same period. Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone alone is estimated to have welcomed 175,797 visitors, an increase of 156.1% compared to the same period; of which 29,888 were international tourists, an increase of 49.7% compared to the same period.
During the 2026 New Year holiday, localities, tourist areas/destinations, and tourism service businesses in the province proactively organized many rich and diverse activities to serve the sightseeing, entertainment, and recreation needs of tourists. Tourism products and services continued to be strengthened and renewed, with a focus on improving quality and the visitor experience.
In various localities and tourist areas/destinations, numerous cultural and artistic activities, sporting events, folk games, and traditional cake festivals are organized, creating a joyful and exciting atmosphere during the first days of the new year. Several typical tourist destinations are implementing Tet holiday programs, such as: Tuc Dup Hill tourist site (O Lam commune), Tra Su Melaleuca Forest tourist site (An Cu commune), Con En tourist site (Cu Lao Gieng commune)... with activities including sightseeing and experiencing the unique local ecology and culture.
In addition, many tourism service businesses have implemented discount and promotional programs, developed new products and services, and organized entertainment activities to attract tourists during the New Year holiday. Specifically in Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone, many large-scale activities and events are being organized to serve tourists, such as: the special edition ONCE show to welcome the new year at VinWonders; the Countdown 2025 “The Rise of Lights” party at Grand World Phu Quoc; the “Paradise” entertainment program combined with fireworks displays; the Beach Music and Fireworks Week in Sunset Town (from December 25, 2025 to January 4, 2026); and the Spectacle Countdown 2026 night with a large-scale artistic fireworks display, contributing to a vibrant and attractive festive atmosphere for domestic and international tourists.
During the 2026 New Year holiday, local authorities, tourist areas/destinations, and tourism service businesses seriously implemented inspection and supervision of tourism activities and ensured security and safety for tourists. Key tourism areas proactively organized inspections and reminded tourism businesses to comply with legal regulations on tourism service operations, fire prevention, environmental protection, food safety and hygiene, and traffic safety.
At tourist areas, attractions, and tourism service establishments, security, order, and social safety measures have been strengthened; on-duty, rescue, and emergency response forces have been fully deployed; and price listing and fair pricing are regularly checked and monitored. Units proactively detect and promptly handle violations, contributing to maintaining a safe, civilized, and friendly tourism environment./.
