Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee conducts field survey and discussions on solid waste management in the province

(AG Provincial E-Portal) - On January 3, Vice Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Ngo Cong Thuc, led a provincial delegation to conduct a field survey and discussions regarding the management of solid waste at sanitary landfills and solid waste treatment facilities across the province.

The delegation visited several waste collection and treatment sites, including My Luong Town Landfill and Solid Waste Treatment Plant (Cho Moi District); Phu Thanh Landfill (Phu Tan District); Canal 10 Landfill (Chau Doc City); An Cu Landfill (Tinh Bien Town); An Tuc Landfill (Tri Ton District); and Binh Hoa Solid Waste Treatment Complex (Chau Thanh District).

During the survey, the delegation examined challenges and shortcomings in the collection, transportation, and treatment of household solid waste in the province. Discussions also focused on proposing solutions to overcome these challenges in the near future.

Vice Chairman Ngo Cong Thuc emphasized the importance of reviewing and assessing the operations of existing waste treatment facilities. He instructed relevant agencies and localities to effectively implement plans for waste collection and treatment, while also prioritizing investments to improve waste management infrastructure.

Vice Chairman Ngo Cong Thuc directed the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to collaborate with related departments and localities to enhance monitoring of landfill operations. He urged the development of effective strategies for solid waste treatment in the coming period.

The Vice Chairman highlighted the goal of reducing the proportion of household solid waste managed through landfilling by 2030. This includes the establishment of a network of centralized solid waste treatment facilities based on regional cooperation and the adoption of appropriate technologies.
