(AG Provincial E-Portal) - On the afternoon of January 6, the An Giang Province Fund for the Poor Campaign Committee convened a meeting to discuss plans to provide Lunar New Year support, ensuring social welfare for impoverished households, near-poor households, families with social protection recipients, and those facing difficult circumstances during the 2025 Lunar New Year (Year of the Snake).
The meeting was chaired by Dang Thi Hoa Ray, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee and Chairperson of the An Giang Provincial Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF), who is also the head of the Fund for the Poor Campaign Committee, alongside other committee members.
The An Giang Province Fund for the Poor Campaign Committee reported that, as of November 30, 2024, the Fund for the Poor at all levels had received contributions totaling VND 274.2 billion, along with a carried-over amount of over VND 35.081 billion from the previous period, bringing the total to over VND 309.3 billion. At the launch ceremony for the Campaign to Eliminate Temporary and Dilapidated Housing, the 2024 Fund for the Poor Drive, and the Spring Charity Drive for the 2025 Lunar New Year, 40 organizations and individuals pledged donations amounting to VND 231.086 billion..
Using the collected funds, the Standing Committee of the VFF at all levels and the Fund for the Poor Campaign Committees have allocated over VND 277.326 billion to build 2,100 Great Unity houses, renovate 204 houses, provide gifts to 353,233 underprivileged households, offer emergency assistance to 64,278 cases, and support medical expenses for 10,726 patients, among other activities…
Currently, the province has 25,269 households classified as poor or near-poor (including 8,507 poor households) in need of Lunar New Year gifts. Local authorities have mobilized resources to secure 12,650 gift packages and are continuing efforts to provide an additional 5,264 gifts for near-poor households. Between November 2024 and now, the Spring Charity Drive has raised VND 67 million, while the Fund for the Poor has collected over VND 1.433 billion.
At the meeting, the members of the Fund for the Poor Campaign Committee reached a consensus to allocate funds from the provincial Fund for the Poor to prepare 330 gift packages for provincial leaders to distribute to impoverished households in 11 disadvantaged communes. Each gift, valued at VND 1 million, will cost a total of VND 330 million. Additionally, 1,000 gift packages, each worth VND 350,000 (totaling VND 350 million), will be provided to the Fund for the Poor Campaign Committees in 11 districts, towns, and cities.
