An Giang: Tourism businesses aim for APEC 2027

(AG Provincial E-Portal) - On January 31 in the afternoon, at the Phu Quoc Special Zone, the An Giang Tourism Association convened a seminar entitled “An Giang Tourism Businesses Aiming for APEC 2027”, aiming to improve service quality, develop unique tourism products, promote the image of Phu Quoc - An Giang internationally, and attract investment to bring An Giang tourism to international standards, contributing to the successful organization of the APEC 2027 Summit on Phu Quoc Island.

Representatives from the An Giang Department of Tourism, the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone, relevant sectors, scientists, experts, businesses, regional tourism associations, and over 80 tourism and travel business members attended.

Presiding over the seminar

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Quoc, Deputy Director of the An Giang Department of Tourism, emphasized that this important forum allows management agencies, associations, and the business community to exchange ideas, assess opportunities, identify requirements, and shape the direction of local tourism development in the context of international integration. The discussion focused on key issues, assessing the opportunities and requirements of APEC 2027 for the competitiveness of An Giang tourism; what tourism businesses need to prepare to take advantage of opportunities and meet the demands of high-quality international tourists associated with APEC 2027; how to leverage An Giang's unique advantages in culture, ecology, islands, spirituality, and community, while strengthening regional linkages and forming a chain of distinctive products with international competitiveness,…

At the seminar, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Sanh, former Director of the Mekong Delta Development Research Institute - Can Tho University, stated that Phu Quoc tourism focuses on six segments: high-end resorts; tourism combining resorts with conferences, seminars, and exhibitions; health and wellness; ecotourism; cultural tourism; and sports and entertainment. With APEC 2027 approaching, An Giang province, along with relevant agencies and businesses, needs to forecast the number of visitors, the percentage of high-quality tourists, spending per visitor, and length of stay before and after APEC 2027 to ensure thorough preparation and meet tourist demands.

Similarly, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Niem, Chairman of the An Giang Startup and Innovation Association, suggested that the Association has sufficient capacity, especially in digital transformation and AI expertise, and wants to know what standards are required for its members to participate in contributing to APEC 2027. The Association hopes to provide AI and digital transformation experts to the Organizing Committee to train volunteer groups participating in the APEC event and support businesses in creating an e-commerce ecosystem.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Loan, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone, shared that Phu Quoc is always striving to follow Resolution 13 of the Politburo, developing the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone into a national and international-level eco-tourism and resort center, a hub connecting all trade relations in the region and globally. Phu Quoc is striving to achieve this goal, each business and each citizen is a tourism ambassador for 2026, preparing for the APEC 2027 event.

Delegates present papers and proposed ideas at the seminar

Simultaneously, delegates exchanged views and proposed directions for tourism development before, during, and after APEC 2027. Delegates suggested that the An Giang Department of Tourism should strengthen its leading role in developing and issuing long-term strategic plans, focusing on green and sustainable tourism development; organize training programs and support businesses in accessing digital technology to promote the image of An Giang to APEC delegates, ensuring the province's tourism meets international standards for safety and environmental sustainability.

Next, communes, wards, and special zones need to take more decisive action, considering tourism as a key economic driver. Local authorities should prioritize allocating budgets for the preservation of cultural heritage, such as traditional festivals and craft villages, while strictly controlling the environment to prevent pollution of rivers – a core resource for An Giang tourism. Towards APEC 2027, the government needs to coordinate the organization of pilot events to welcome international tourists and support local businesses in granting permits quickly, creating a transparent business environment, and contributing to building an image of An Giang as a friendly and safe destination.

For tourism businesses, which are the core force, it is necessary to proactively innovate and invest in sustainable tourism products such as eco-friendly homestays, community tours, and high-end services targeting APEC guests. Businesses should cooperate with each other to form supply chains, minimize resource waste, and apply green standards such as energy saving and reducing single-use plastics. To prepare for APEC 2027, businesses need to participate in international trade fairs, build a common brand for An Giang tourism, and commit to training staff to improve service quality, so that every visitor to and from Phu Quoc Island becomes an "ambassador" promoting the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone and An Giang province.

The province needs to focus on strengthening communication and information dissemination to spread awareness of the APEC 2027 event, concentrating on promoting and introducing Phu Quoc - An Giang tourism in a targeted and focused manner, especially green tourism, building the An Giang brand as a sustainable destination, attracting investment and international tourists.

Representatives from the An Giang Department of Tourism pledged to always work alongside the Tourism Association and the business community, listening to and incorporating feedback to research and advise on appropriate policies; supporting market promotion, human resource development, promoting digital transformation, and orienting towards sustainable green tourism development; creating a foundation for An Giang tourism to proactively seize opportunities and meet the requirements of deeper integration into the international market in conjunction with the APEC 2027 Summit.

The seminar discussed many issues, clearly assessing opportunities, potential, and requirements, suggesting many specific solutions, forming consensus in action, and contributing to the orientation of An Giang's tourism development in a high-class, quality, sustainable, and integrated manner in the coming time. Mr. Nguyen Vu Khac Huy, Chairman of the An Giang Tourism Association, committed to connecting the strength of businesses, leading development, and reaching the level of integration with APEC 2027. Tourism businesses need to improve service standards, train human resources, and apply technology to meet the requirements of international tourists; build unique tourism products; and take advantage of APEC 2027 as a "golden opportunity" to introduce An Giang on the international tourism map.

Launching the An Giang Tourist Guides Association

On this occasion, the Provincial Tourism Association launched the An Giang Tourist Guide Association, operating under the motto "Connect - Accompany - Develop". Simultaneously, it signed cooperation agreements for tourism development with regional tourism associations and businesses, initially focusing on collaboration towards APEC 2027.
