Reporting at the ceremony, Director of My Thuan Project Management Board Tran Van Thi said, the investment project on building the route connecting National Route 91 and the Long Xuyen city bypass, located in the overall scale of the Mekong Delta Connection Project passing through Vinh Thanh district, Thot Not district (Can Tho city) and Long Xuyen city (An Giang province), was started the construction on January 18, 2022.

The project has a new construction route length of 15.3km and an upgraded and renovated section of National Route 80 of about 2km. The project's starting point at Km7+877.13 connects to the road leading to Vam Cong bridge from National Route 80 to Lo Te intersection, then crosses National Route 80 through the Long Xuyen city bypass, crossing Provincial Route 943 and Long Xuyen River by Long Xuyen Bridge connecting to the end point at Km23+561.22, intersection with National Route 91 at km65+000 (in Binh Duc ward, Long Xuyen city, An Giang province).

The investment scale is according to class-III plain road standards, the roadbed is 12m wide, the road surface is 11m wide, including 2 motor vehicle lanes, 2 mixed lanes and sidewalks; design speed of 80km/h; Particularly, the section to renovate and upgrade the existing National Route 80, invested according to class-IV delta road standards, with a speed of 60km/h.

The project has a total investment of more than 2,100 billion VND, invested with ODA loans from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and counterpart capital from the Government of Vietnam.

Representative of the construction unit, Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of Thanh Huy Group Joint Stock Company Nguyen Phi Long said that understanding the expectations of the people of An Giang province over the past 25 years, the construction contractors of the Long Xuyen bypass proactively and creatively made efforts to overcome all difficulties, mobilized maximum means, equipment, supplies and personnel, and organized scientific construction in the spirit of the Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's direction:  "Overcome the heat, pass through rains", "Eat quickly, speed up sleep, work in 3 shifts - 4 crews, through holidays and Tet days", "Just work without talking to go back", solidarity and support, coordination and help between each other to put the project into operation from May 31, 2024. This result was achieved thanks to the close direction of the Ministry of Transport, the attention and support of An Giang province's leaders, by early handover of the site, and creating conditions to support a guaranteed source of sand and stone materials to meet the needs for the project, responding to the set schedule.

Ms. Susan Lim, senior expert, investment portfolio manager, Resident Representative Office in Vietnam of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), informed that Vietnam has been a founding member of ADB since 1966, always actively participated and received regular support from ADB for development investment projects. The investment project to build the route connecting National Route 91 and the Long Xuyen city bypass is the final component of the Mekong Delta Connectivity Project, funded with 90 million USD from the Australian Government and partners. The project not only helps reduce traffic load and minimize traffic accidents through Long Xuyen city center, connect An Giang with the Mekong Delta region, but also bringing benefits to about 1.5 million people in Can Tho city and Long Xuyen city, of which 50% are women and girls, through access to trade, services, and employment.

Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Le Van Phuoc emphasized that An Giang is one of four provinces in the key economic region of the Mekong Delta, bordered on the Kingdom of Cambodia, and transportation infrastructure is especially important to the province.

In the context of National Route 91 is a unique traffic route, connecting from the Can Tho city to An Giang and through Cambodia, the province is interested in and supported by the Government and the Ministry of Transport for investment in the project connecting National Route 91 and the Long Xuyen city bypass. With the spirit of coordinated support and urgent, drastic and responsible construction, after more than 2 years of construction, the project has been completed, meeting the expectations and desires of many generations of leaders and employees, People of An Giang province.

Besides facilitating circulation and relieving traffic congestion through the center of the province, the project also helps expand urban space for the Long Xuyen city, is a lever to promote socio-economic development, inviting investment in An Giang province in the coming time.

An Giang Provincial People's Committee proposed that Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang continues to pay attention and considers supporting additional investment in a number of project items, in order to improve the quality and enhance the stability of the project. process, ensuring traffic safety and urban aesthetics during long-term exploitation and use, in accordance with actual local conditions, and maximizing the investment efficiency of the project.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Duy Lam affirmed that the project to build the route connecting National Route 91 and the Long Xuyen city bypass has been put into use to meet the expectations of the people, contributing to reducing traffic congestion and traffic accidents on National Route 91, Long Xuyen city center, at the same time shortening travel time from Chau Doc city to Vam Cong bridge. This project, along with many works and projects that have been invested in and built in the Mekong Delta, contributes to gradually completing a synchronous and modern transportation network according to planning, promoting socio-economic development and strengthening defense and security of the region.
