Determining sustainable poverty reduction as one of the important tasks, contributing to promoting socio-economic development, Chau Thanh district has set out tasks and solutions to increase income, improve people's lives, reduce the rate of poor households, and avoid re-poverty. The district has strengthened the dissemination of the Party's guidelines and the State's policies on poverty reduction, with increasingly diverse forms and contents, in order to raise awareness, gradually eliminate the mindset of waiting, relying on others, and promote the people's will to rise up and escape poverty. Every year, communes, townships, sectors and unions in the district investigate and review poor and near-poor households; analyze the causes leading to the difficult circumstances of the target groups, to propose practical, appropriate and effective solutions and support policies. Many poor, newly escaped poverty and near-poor households are supported in their livelihoods, creating jobs, increasing income, creating conditions to access basic social services in health, education, housing, clean water and sanitation, access to information... Thereby, contributing to improving the material and spiritual life of the people, reducing the rate of poor households each year. Up to now, the rate of poor households in the district has decreased to 1.82%.

Head of the Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs of Chau Thanh district Huynh Van Thuc said: Every year, the unit proactively coordinates with mass organizations and local authorities to review the number of trained and untrained workers, learn about their vocational training needs, and develop appropriate training plans. Then, focusing on vocational training associated with serving agricultural production, traditional occupations in the locality, new occupations, gradually improving skills, serving well the labor market.

Last year, the district provided vocational training for 890 rural workers (197% of the plan). Of which, vocational training under 3 months was provided to 399 workers, with the following occupations: Livestock breeding techniques, industrial sewing and civil construction testing, vegetarian sausage processing; Elementary vocational training (B, C, D class drivers) for 440 workers. In addition, jobs were created for over 6,750 workers (112.5%); 84 workers went to work abroad under labor contracts (mainly Japan and Taiwan).

Chau Thanh district also implemented a synchronous policy on loans, helping people easily access preferential loans, invest in equipment, develop and expand production and business scale, and develop family economy. Along with loan support and poverty reduction support, sectors, organizations and local authorities stepped up propaganda and mobilized people to apply scientific and technical advances in livestock farming, boldly shift the structure of crops and livestock, and invest in intensive cultivation of crops and livestock with high economic value. Implementing projects and sub-projects under the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction in 2024, the district's departments, unions and People's Committees of communes and townships always have synchronous and active coordination in mobilizing, propagating and implementing policies to help poor, near-poor and disadvantaged households soon stabilize their lives and escape poverty. Thereby, 11/13 communes and townships participated in the project to diversify livelihoods and develop poverty reduction models, with a total cost of nearly 4 billion VND, implementing projects on raising cows, raising chickens, garment processing, construction workers... "In 2024, Binh Thanh commune supported livelihoods and developed poverty reduction models, with 2 models: raising fattened cows and garment processing. Participating in the models, households were supported with capital, breeding animals, trained in livestock farming techniques and vocational training, to increase income and stabilize family life" - Vice Chairman of Binh Thanh Commune People's Committee Phan Thanh Hien shared.

Vice Chairman of Chau Thanh District People's Committee Ho Huu Tai said: In the coming time, Chau Thanh District will continue to implement the goal of sustainable poverty reduction according to a multidimensional approach, minimize the situation of re-poverty. At the same time, the district will focus on thoroughly disseminating, propagating to the people (especially poor, near-poor and newly escaped poverty households) about sustainable poverty reduction and social security policies. In addition, maintaining and replicating effective poverty reduction models; supporting and helping the poor, near-poor and disadvantaged people to access and effectively use preferential loans; providing vocational training, creating jobs, transfer of science and technology into production.
