Action for Children

26/06/2024 |

(AG Provincial E-Portal) - In recent years, the province has consistently endeavored to establish equality among children in special and challenging circumstances, poor children, children in remote areas, ethnic minority areas, and children in general. This aims to facilitate their comprehensive development in a safe and healthy environment.

During the Children's New Year celebration at the Provincial Social Protection Centre, Cai Thi Hai Duong enthusiastically opened the performance, officially welcoming the summer vacation.  Hai Duong successfully completed her second-grade coursework, marking a significant conclusion to the academic year. The petite girl was consistently energised, holding hands with friends to participate in the lively atmosphere, cheerleading with friends, and participating in games and quizzes throughout the program. "I am extremely pleased to be involved in a multitude of activities. I aspire to further develop this location, and I am confident that I will achieve success in my studies, have a successful birth, and return to visit my aunts and uncles in the future.”, Hai Duong shared. Vo Thanh Thuong is also an example of being raised in this location. Thuong, who is older than the other children, exudes a sense of tranquility and maturity. When the benefactor presented him with the gift, his eyes were filled with joy. It is evident that every child experiences joy when they are cherished and treated with gifts.

Summer commenced at the Provincial Social Protection Centre, where 120 children with special circumstances, including orphans, disabled children, and street children, from the centre and two wards in Long Xuyen City, entertained themselves and received gifts. Localities and units throughout the province simultaneously initiated Action Month for Children and conducted practical activities that targeted children in general and children with special circumstances in particular. In light of the province's unique characteristics and the living conditions in certain areas, Ms. Nguyen Thi Bao Tran, the Deputy Director of the Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs of An Giang province, stated that abuse, orphans, and children with special circumstances continue to occur. The province as a whole has approximately 4,000 children with special circumstances, with an additional 35,000 children at risk of falling into special circumstances. Although sectors and levels are highly concerned, the care and protection of children are occasionally not provided in a timely manner.  The unit organised a delegation to visit and distribute gifts to children in special circumstances at schools, centres, districts, and cities at the provincial level during this year's Action Month for Children. The total amount of gifts distributed was over 250 million VND, with over 1,000 gifts distributed.

Mr. Dang Huy Chau, the Head of the Department of Children - Gender Equality, stated that numerous practical contents have been implemented in the care of children since the beginning of the year.  In particular, we provided assistance for mobile swimming in the following districts: Chau Phu, Thoai Son, Tri Tonne, Tinh Bien Town, Chau Doc City, and the Provincial Children's House. Simultaneously, we conducted a camp for 88 children with special needs, which served to impart knowledge regarding children's rights, engage in activities, and hone their skills. The 17th provincial-level swimming and diving competition to prevent child drowning accidents was organized in Chau Doc city by the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, in coordination with the Department of Labour, War Invalids, and Social Affairs. The competition was part of the "Programme for popularising swimming and preventing child drowning accidents." The Department of Labour, War Invalids, and Social Affairs is particularly dedicated to the promotion of child protection and the organisation of friendly sports festivals for children with special circumstances in June, in addition to providing support for gifts and organizing healthy fun activities. Deploy a model of injury prevention for children in Chau Phu district and Tri Ton district; Summer camp for over 80 children with special circumstances is scheduled to take place in Lam Dong province.

The lives of children in particularly challenging circumstances are improving at an accelerating pace as a result of the involvement of all levels, sectors, and localities. Fully, promptly, and in compliance with regulations, social support policies for children who receive monthly social benefits are implemented. Mr. Le Van Phuoc, the Vice Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee, underscored that the province has made significant progress in the protection and care of children in recent years under the leadership of Party committees and authorities at all levels, as well as the coordination of departments, branches, and unions. The set plan has been surpassed in many respects, including the achievement of numerous healthcare and education objectives for children. Youth and children are provided with favorable conditions to study and develop in all areas.

Nevertheless, there are still some existing and challenging aspects, such as abuse, accidents, serious diseases, and epidemics that affect children, in addition to these advantages. COVID-19 continues to be a source of concern for the entire society and the province of An Giang in particular.

The Provincial People's Committee, in accordance with the theme "Practical action, prioritising resources for children," suggests that all levels and sectors concentrate on the promotion of propaganda and the mobilisation of individuals during this year's Action Month for Children. Individuals execute the Party's policies and the State's legal policies regarding the protection, care, and education of children, with a particular emphasis on the implementation of the Children's Law. Additionally, organise enjoyable and entertaining activities, create equal development opportunities for children, and synchronously deploy management and educational activities for children during the summer. In order to assist children in difficult circumstances, including vulnerable children, disabled children, remote areas, and ethnic minority areas, it is essential to consider their needs when organizing activities to overcome the disparity and maintain the standard rate of advancement. Furthermore, the prevention and control of accidents, injuries, and issues related to children, as well as the guidance of children on life skills and self-protection, are the primary objectives of all levels, sectors, and localities, depending on the child's age, level of maturity, and development.
