(AG Provincial E-Portal) - Many farmers in Chau Thanh district have boldly restructured their crop structures, constantly renewing their farming philosophy, and collaborating in production and business to meet the unique conditions of each locality, leveraging the strength of agricultural production. Subsequently, numerous highly effective production and business models have emerged, enabling them to be replicated, thereby enhancing the quality of life for farmers, enhancing income, and fostering socio-economic development.
Mr. Nguyen Pham Tuan, the Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Chau Thanh District, stated that the district has actively promoted agricultural restructuring over the years, with a particular emphasis on the construction of numerous specialized production areas that are suitable for the soil and can adapt to climate change. In parallel, gradually enhance the infrastructure for agricultural production; consolidate and enhance the capacity of cooperatives, cooperative groups, and associations between farmers and farmers, as well as between farmers and enterprises. Furthermore, actively collaborating with specialized sectors to facilitate the transfer of advanced technologies and scientific and technical advancements to production, particularly clean agricultural production technology and organic agriculture, in conjunction with appropriate production restructuring, thereby enhancing productivity, quality, and market competitiveness.
In order to execute the agricultural sector restructuring plan, Chau Thanh district needs to implement critical agricultural production tasks by localities, branches, and units. It is particularly concerned with the promotion of strengths, cooperation, linkage, and the reorganization of production. At the same time, step-by-step specialized production areas with crops and livestock suitable for each region and each locality should be built, creating conditions for farmers to access scientific and technical advances in the field of agriculture. As a result, there are numerous farmers who are willing to think, act, experiment, and replicate new types of trees and children, thereby contributing to the diversification of production and the development of new industries and services with high economic efficiency.
Mr. Huynh Quang Minh, a resident of Phu Hoa 1, Binh Hoa commune, cultivates the Hung Long 555 rice variety in the summer-autumn crop of 2024. He employs rice sowing and transplanting techniques, with a seed amount of 12 kg/1,000 m2, resulting in a yield of over 9 tons/ha, in order to reduce costs and care. Fresh rice is priced at 7,500 VND per kilogram. He generated a profit of nearly 3 million VND per work after subtracting expenses. Mr. Huynh Quang Minh stated, "The rice plants grow exceptionally well, exhibit fewer pests and diseases, and produce higher yields than the rice varieties I previously cultivated, provided that I provide proper care, use sufficient fertilizer, and secure suitable water sources over the course of two seasons of cultivation."
Mr. Tran Van Ket (residing in Tan Thanh hamlet, Tan Phu commune) achieved success with the durian planting model by boldly altering the crop structure. He invested in a water-saving irrigation system for his durian garden to reduce costs and labor. Additionally, he capitalizes on the free space between durian trees to cultivate additional coconuts and lemons, thereby generating additional revenue. "I will invest in additional miniatures and establish eco-tourism services to allow tourists from both near and far to experience and enjoy durian, in addition to incorporating high-tech farming practices," Mr. Kiet disclosed.
In addition to advocating for the transformation of agricultural structure, producers in Chau Thanh district have also created numerous livestock models that are highly economically efficient. In particular, the breeding eel farming model of Mr. Phan Ngoc Thuan (residing in Hoa Thanh hamlet, Hoa Binh Thanh commune) and Mr. Le Thanh Tuan (residing in An Hoa hamlet, An Hoa commune), the commercial eel farming and breeding eel model of Mr. Nguyen Van Duong (residing in Vinh Phuoc hamlet, Vinh Binh commune), the goat farming model using biological products of Mr. Ha Minh Ngoan (residing in An Phu hamlet, An Hoa commune), and the Thai frog farming model of Mr. Doan Van Buc (residing in Vinh Nhuan commune) are all noteworthy. "The raised eels without mud model is in accordance with the actual conditions of the locality and adheres to VietGap standards." In addition, the investment capital for the model is not particularly large, and farmers can capitalize on the land area surrounding the house to produce crops. "After approximately 8-10 months of farming, each commercial eel tank with a 40 m2 area can generate a profit of over 30 million VND per tank when sold at a price of 200,000-250,000 VND/kg," stated Mr. Phan Ngoc Thuan, a resident of Hoa Thanh hamlet, Hoa Binh Thanh commune.
In addition to utilizing mushroom straw composting, Mr. Tran Van Thanh Tuyen (Tan Thanh hamlet, Vinh Thanh commune) also utilizes rice straw after harvesting rice (or straw after mushroom sowing) to compost into bio-organic fertilizer and fertilize plants. This method reduces production costs by restricting the combustion of straw, which contributes to environmental pollution. Mr. Tuyen generates an annual income of 30 to 40 million VND from two cylindrical straw mushroom farms, each occupying 40 m2. "The cultivation of straw mushrooms is extremely straightforward, the process of treating straw and bacteria in the mushroom grower is significantly shortened, and the economic efficiency is twice as high as that of outdoor straw mushroom cultivation, all thanks to the support of science and technology." Mr. Tuyen stated, "The straw mushroom market is highly reassuring due to its widespread consumption and consistent price."
In the near future, Chau Thanh district will persist in its efforts to restructure the agricultural sector in conjunction with modern development, with an emphasis on leveraging local advantages to promote sustainable development. Simultaneously, encourage the mobilization of farmers to implement scientific and technological advancements in production, with a particular emphasis on the organization of safe, organic agricultural production and high-tech agriculture. This will involve the replication of effective production and business models, which will generate significant economic value. Consequently, this contributes to the enhancement of product value, the enhancement of market competitiveness, the maintenance of consistent output, the enhancement of the material and spiritual well-being of the populace, and the promotion of socio-economic development.
