(An Giang E-Portal)-On September 15, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment coordinated with the People's Committee of An Giang province to organize a Conference to summarize the pilot model of high-quality, low-emission specialized rice production in the 2025 summer-autumn crop in the Mekong Delta. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Thanh Nam; Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang province Ngo Cong Thuc co-chaired the conference.

In the 2025 summer-autumn crop, the entire Mekong Delta region has had 11 pilot models for high-quality, low-emission rice production with a total area of over 543 hectares. Farmers participating in the model have reduced the amount of seeds, fertilizers and pesticides, managed water resources, well treated and utilized straws.
At the end of the 2025 summer-autumn crop, the average yield of 11 models reached 64.8 quintals/ha, with a total output of 3,524 tons. Compared to fields cultivated using traditional methods, the models achieved higher yields from 1.4 to 15.9 quintals/ha, with profits increasing by 4.6 to 15.8 million VND/ha.
In the 2025-2026 Winter-Spring crop, the provinces in the Mekong Delta will implement more than 5,149 hectares, of which about 399 hectares will follow Process 145 of the General Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection.
According to the plan, An Giang province will have about 351,000 hectares of rice participating in the Project, accounting for more than 35% of the rice area implementing the Project in Decision 1490/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister. Currently, the province has over 150,000 hectares applying 3 criteria for sustainable rice cultivation, over 110,000 hectares applying 4 criteria and over 43,000 hectares applying 5 criteria. At the same time, An Giang also deployed 89 demonstration models, with a total area of about 2,000 hectares, bringing high efficiency, mobilizing the participation of subjects in the rice production chain.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Thanh Nam highly appreciated the results achieved by localities when participating in the Project. At the same time, he requested the agricultural sector and localities to step up propaganda and raise farmers' awareness of the effectiveness of cultivating high-quality, low-emission rice.
At the same time, the General Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection is requested to promptly supplement the high-quality rice cultivation process and measurement criteria in the MRV method to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment for promulgation as a basis for implementation. The General Department of Economic Cooperation and Rural Development, the National Agricultural Extension Center, and local agricultural sectors are requested to strengthen training and improve the capacity of staff on measurement criteria in the MRV method to serve the requirements of the upcoming tasks.
Deputy Minister Tran Thanh Nam also requested provinces and cities to approve cooperation projects, creating conditions for businesses to access the Government's support policies when participating in the Project. In particular, it is necessary to call on businesses to participate in the field of straw treatment in rice production, in order to improve the efficiency of emission reduction.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment of the provinces should proactively advise the Provincial People's Committee to invest in irrigation infrastructure to serve the Project. For enterprises and cooperatives, it is necessary to promote linkages in rice consumption to help solve stable output for farmers, especially the areas participating in the Project.../.
