Many key transport projects have been invested. In the new period of deep integration with the international community, An Giang has many new development opportunities”.
“With the attention of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Committee, ministries and central branches, the national highway and provincial road traffic system has been invested in connecting with the regional traffic system, overcoming the terrain separation, connecting tourist areas, economic centers of the region and the Mekong Delta. The transport sector has been invested and oriented with the goal of strengthening regional and inter-regional connectivity, developing "transport infrastructure breakthroughs", gradually removing traffic infrastructure bottlenecks, connecting the province's traffic system to international transport routes and international border gates, facilitating socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and border security" - Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ngo Cong Thuc shared.
Implementing the policy of breakthrough development of transport infrastructure, the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway was started in 2023. The project is carrying out procedures to invest in the expressway connecting to Tinh Bien International Border Gate and Khanh Binh National Border Gate, connecting the An Giang border area with Can Tho city, Hau Giang and Soc Trang provinces to Tran De Port. "After completion, the project will open up the corridor towards the Southwest border (Cambodia, Laos), connecting the key economic zone, connecting An Giang transport system to the international transport route; creating opportunities for the province's goods to access the large market of ASEAN countries and export to countries that Vietnam has signed a free trade agreement with through Tran De deep-water port. Currently, the component projects have started the construction, it is expected to be put into use in 2027" - Mr. Ngo Cong Thuc said.

Talking about the new value of the projects, Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ngo Cong Thuc commented: After completion, the expressway project will form a vertical axis along the Hau River, parallel to and breaking the monopoly of National Highway 91. In addition to investing in the vertical axis, 3 connecting horizontal axes have been and are being invested in. The first horizontal axis - the border area of the province: Route N1 connecting Highway 91, connecting Sam Mountain Tourist Area, Cam Mountain Tourist Area, Chau Doc City Commercial Center with the tourist areas of Ha Tien City (Kien Giang Province), connecting inter-regionally to Dong Thap Province. This route is under construction, expected to be completed in 2025. In the near future, the province will propose to the Ministry of Transport and coordinate with Dong Thap Province to invest in Tan Chau - Hong Ngu Bridge across Tien River and Route N1 in Dong Thap Province to connect with Hong Ngu - Tra Vinh Expressway.
The second horizontal axis - Chau Phu and Phu Tan districts: DT 945 route (it is planned as National Highway 80C) is invested with a scale of 2 lanes connecting from National Highway 91 - Chau Phu district to the border of Kien Giang province. Orientation for the period 2026 - 2030, it will be invested in the remaining section including Nang Gu bridge (replacing Nang Gu ferry on Hau river) and opening a new section of National Highway 80C through Phu Tan district, coordinating with Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee to invest in National Highway 30C to connect Provincial Route 945 with Hong Ngu - Tra Vinh expressway from Cao Lanh to Dinh Ba border gate; Continuing the investment in Provincial Route 945, connecting with Kien Giang province, investment in the section of National Highway 80C through Hon Dat district (Kien Giang province), connecting from the end point of the Provincial Route 945 with National Highway 80 of Kien Giang province. In the future, an inter-regional horizontal axis will be formed, connecting vertical axes: Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway, Hong Ngu - Tra Vinh Expressway (Dong Thap province), connecting National Highway 80 (Kien Giang province).
The third horizontal axis - Long Xuyen city area, Cho Moi district, as investment orientation to 2030, to invest in Ton Duc Thang bridge over Hau river and the connecting the Provincial Route 944B. According to Decision 1369/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on approving An Giang Provincial Planning, a horizontal axis will be formed connecting National Highway 91, Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway (intersection Km38 - DT 956), Provincial Route 944, National Highway 80B, Cao Lanh bridge to Ho Chi Minh City. In particular, this horizontal axis has an important meaning in connecting the road system to the homeland and the Memorial Site of President Ton Duc Thang.
Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ngo Cong Thuc concluded that if more investment resources are allocated, the province's road traffic system will soon establish 3 horizontal routes (Route N1, Provincial Route 945 (National Highway 80C), Provincial Route 944B and Ton Duc Thang Bridge). Connecting with 2 vertical expressways, including: Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway) and Hong Ngu - Tra Vinh Expressway (Cao Lanh - An Huu to Dinh Ba border gate), it will form the province's external road traffic system, with "cross-horizontal and vertical" connections.
