(AG Provincial E-Portal) - On the morning of December 17, 2024, at An Giang University, Long Xuyen City, An Giang Province, the Mekong Connect Forum for the 9th time officially opened. This is a major annual event, bringing together domestic and international managers, entrepreneurs, scientists and experts to promote economic, trade and technological links between the Mekong Delta, Ho Chi Minh City and regions across the country.
Attending the event were Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Phuoc; Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda and Education Department, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of An Giang Province Tran Thi Thanh Huong; Ms. Vu Kim Hanh, Chairwoman of the Business Association of High Quality Vietnamese Products; Experts, Speakers representing Ministries, branches, Institutes and Schools; Representatives of leaders of Departments from provinces and cities and Enterprises belonging to the Association of High-Quality Vietnamese Goods from localities across the country.
With the theme "Promoting economic, trade and technological cooperation in the Mekong Delta - Ho Chi Minh City and the whole country towards sustainable development in the new competitive context", the event takes place on December 17 and 18, 2024. This year's forum is expected to bring breakthroughs in improving the quality of the value chain, promote sustainable development and international competitiveness. Under the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the event is co-chaired by the People's Committee of An Giang province and the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, in coordination with the provinces and city of Ben Tre, Can Tho, Dong Thap, Hau Giang and Vinh Long.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Mekong Connect Forum 2024, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Le Van Phuoc expressed his honor that An Giang is the locality hosting this year's event. He affirmed that Mekong Connect has become a prestigious forum, a solid bridge between the provinces and city of the Mekong Delta, Ho Chi Minh City and the whole country, aiming to promote regional connectivity and sustainable cooperation. In particular, Mr. Le Van Phuoc emphasized the prospect of Mekong Connect 2024 in expanding cooperation between An Giang, Ho Chi Minh City and the provinces and city of the Mekong Delta, typically the ABCD Mekong group (An Giang, Ben Tre, Can Tho, Dong Thap), and localities such as Vinh Long and Hau Giang. The event promises to promote the agricultural value chain, technology application, international market integration and development of Vietnam - Cambodia border tourism.
Mekong Connect 2024 marks the event that for the first time, the forum is held in An Giang - the key agricultural economic center of the Mekong Delta region. The main activities at the forum include: International Green Startup Festival, exchanging " Startup Stories and Journeys" of excellent green agricultural enterprises that have won awards in the past 10 years with young startup entrepreneurs from provinces and cities participating in Mekong Connect this year; Livestream selling agricultural products with the theme on "Promoting sustainable trade based on local resources"; Workshop on "Developing local resources and local economy through regional linkages in the new competitive context", Discussion on "Investment capital and human resources for sustainable linkages" .
In particular, Mekong Connect 2024 will launch the Executive Commission of the 3-region Green Agricultural Business Club, and create opportunities for domestic startup businesses to exchange and connect with international partners from Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Korea. This is also a place to introduce innovative initiatives and modern business solutions associated with sustainable development standards.
Organized for the first time in 2015, Mekong Connect has become a prestigious forum, contributing to promoting regional connectivity and comprehensive economic development for the Mekong Delta. With the consistent message of “Connection – Sustainability – New Competition”, this year’s event continues to affirm the important role of Mekong Connect in shaping the future of the region, creating momentum for sustainable socio-economic development in the context of globalization.
