(AG Provincial E-Portal) - On the morning of september 5th, together with localities across the country, educational institutions in An Giang province simultaneously held the Opening Ceremony for the new school year 2026-2027.
At the venue of Giang Thanh Boarding Primary and Secondary School, the opening ceremony and inauguration for the new school year 2026-2027 was attended by Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang Province Ho Van Mung; Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy; former provincial leaders through various periods; representatives of departments, agencies and local authorities; companies and enterprises; teachers and students.
In recent years, the Party and the State have always paid special attention to the cause of education and training, especially education in areas inhabited by ethnic minorities, mountainous and border regions. The investment in building Giang Thanh Boarding Primary and Secondary School is of great importance, contributing to creating favorable conditions for study and daily life for students in the border area; improving the quality of education and developing human resources; while also contributing to socio-economic development, strengthening national defense and security, and building an increasingly strong border area.
This is 01 of 03 inter-level boarding school projects for primary and secondary education in border communes, a concrete step to realize the Politburo's policy on developing education in border areas.
In phase 1, An Giang province has completed 03 boarding school projects in the communes of Giang Thanh, Vinh Gia and Khanh Binh, with a total investment of more than 388 billion VND from the central budget. Currently, the schools have fully arranged staff including 12 managers, 159 teachers and 20 employees. As of August 31, 2026, there were 3,782 out of 4,172 students registered for enrollment, a rate of 92.8%. Of these, 477 students registered as boarders and 3,305 students registered as semi-boarders.
The results show a high demand for learning and basic consensus among parents, while also requiring a strict review of the target groups, class sizes, admission capacity and practical service organization of each school. The locality has also fully allocated operating funds and personal belongings; completed fire prevention and school health safety plans to ensure stable operation of the schools.
In addition, An Giang province is also accelerating the implementation of phase 2 with 06 other border boarding school projects in the communes of Ba Chuc, Phu Huu, Nhon Hoi, Vinh Dieu, An Phu and Vinh Xuong; with a total investment of 186.065 billion VND and expected to be completed and put into use before August 30, 2027 to promptly serve the 2027-2028 school year.
On this occasion, General Secretary and President To Lam presented Giang Thanh Boarding Primary and Secondary School with 20 footballs, creating conditions for students to exercise, have healthy recreation after school and strive for many good achievements in the new school year; awarded 50 scholarships to students in difficult circumstances; donated 10 bicycles to the School; the Provincial Border Guard Command donated 10 million VND; Kien Giang Lottery Company donated 3,000 notebooks and 100 backpacks to disadvantaged students of the School and 50 million VND; Thuan Phong Minerals Joint Stock Company donated 50 million VND to the Scholarship Fund of Giang Thanh Boarding Primary and Secondary School; VNPT, CIC Company and the Provincial Construction and Transport Investment Project Management Board (Investor) accompanied and supported the School's activities on the occasion of the new school year.
