Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Tien Hai and Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of An Giang Provincial Party Committee Le Hong Quang co-chaired the conference. Also attending the conference were the Provincial Party Standing Committee, People's Council, People's Committee; members of the the Provincial Party Standing Committee; leaders of relevant departments and branches of the two provinces of An Giang and Kien Giang, and representatives of leaders of central agencies.

At the conference, the Steering Committee for the implementation of the Project on the arrangement and reorganization of administrative units at the provincial level of An Giang - Kien Giang assessed the progress of the arrangement and reorganization of administrative units at the commune level; exchanged, discussed and gave opinions on the draft Plan for the implementation of the policy on merging An Giang and Kien Giang provinces into An Giang province.According to the report of the Department of Home Affairs of An Giang and Kien Giang, up to now, the two provinces have completed the arrangement and reorganization of commune-level administrative units. Accordingly, An Giang province after the arrangement has 54 commune-level administrative units; including 44 communes and 10 wards. For Kien Giang province, after the arrangement, there are 48 commune-level administrative units; including 41 communes, 4 wards and 3 special zones: Phu Quoc, Kien Hai and Tho Chau. The two provinces also closely coordinated to complete the project of arrangement and reorganization of provincial-level administrative units, submitting it to the Central Government for approval within the prescribed time.

According to Resolution No. 60-NQ/TW dated April 12, 2025 of the 11th Conference of the 13th Party Central Committee, An Giang province and Kien Giang province will be merged, named An Giang province, with the political and administrative center located in Kien Giang province. The arrangement and merger of An Giang province and Kien Giang province will form a province with the largest economic scale in the Southwest region, with a combination of maritime economy, border trade, agriculture and tourism; maximizing the potential and advantages of geographical location, land fund associated with advantages of border trade, seaports and tourism.

Concluding the conference, Party Central Committee member, Secretary of An Giang Provincial Party Committee Le Hong Quang and Party Central Committee member, Secretary of Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Tien Hai emphasized that the workload in the coming time is very large; requested each working group to review tasks, deploy specific work, ensuring compliance with the policies, viewpoints, orientations, goals, requirements, tasks, roadmap, plans of the Central Government and the practical bases of the two provinces.In the process of implementing the tasks, it is necessary to have close and smooth coordination between working groups; agencies and units of the two provinces of An Giang and Kien Giang. 

It is recommended that leaders of localities and units of the two provinces uphold the spirit of responsibility, support and sharing to reach consensus in the way of doing things. In addition, dissemination and propaganda work needs to be organized and implemented extensively and consistently, helping to raise awareness and unify the will in the political system; creating consensus and support from cadres, party members and people of all walks of life for the policy of rearranging the organization of the apparatus, administrative units at all levels and organizing a 2-level local government model..../.
