(AG Provincial E-Portal) - On December 02, at the Cultural Center of Asunción Port, Paraguay capital, the opening event of the 19th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage was held by the Ministry of Culture of Paraguay. The delegation of An Giang province led by comrade Le Hong Quang, Member of the Party Central Executive Committee, Secretary of An Giang Provincial Party Committee, attended this event.
This event marks an important milestone in Paraguay's cultural history with activities designed to highlight the richness of the culture considered the heart of the Latin American Community, with musics, traditional dances, local cuisine and exhibitions, offering exciting experiences, close to the cultural heritage of the Republic of Paraguay.
Taking place from December 02 to December 07, 2024, the Intergovernmental Committee for UNESCO 2003 Convention on Intangible Cultural Heritage Safeguarding will evaluate 56 nominations, including: 41 proposals for the Representative List, 4 proposals for the Urgent Safeguarding List and 3 proposals for the Register of Good Practices.
With the participation of 24 Committee member countries, official delegations, international observers and technical heritage experts, the event’s extensive agenda will also include activities involving artisans, local leaders, artists and cultural managers. In addition to formal discussions and decisions, participating delegations will have the opportunity to explore the richness of Paraguay’s intangible cultural heritage. Through a parallel program of cultural activities, the event aims to highlight forms of expression such as musics, gastronomy and local handicrafts.
Attending the event on the sidelines of the 19th session of UNESCO, comrade Le Hong Quang - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the working delegation of An Giang province met and discussed with Paraguayan President Santiago Pena about diplomatic relations, expanding economic-trade cooperation, tourism, cultural exchange between Vietnam and Paraguay in general, and An Giang province in particular.
As reported, at the 19th session of UNESCO, Vietnam nominated the “Via Ba Chua Xu Nui Sam Festival” as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity. And if recognized, this will be the 16th intangible cultural heritage of our country and the first traditional festival of the Southern land to be honored by UNESCO, continuing to glorify Vietnamese culture on the world map./.
