An Giang: Conveying the message of joining hands to prevent plastic waste, building a sustainable lifestyle in harmony with nature

(AG Provincial E-Portal) - On the morning of November 17, at Kien Giang College, Rach Gia ward, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinated with the People's Committee of An Giang province to organize the opening ceremony of a photo exhibition to promote plastic waste prevention and control in 2025.

The exhibition displays 100 photo frames combined with explanations, banners and slogans to propagate and popularize the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws on environmental protection and plastic waste prevention and control, contributing to change, raising awareness and responsibility of the community, conveying the message of joining hands to build a sustainable lifestyle in harmony with nature.

In his opening speech, Deputy Director General of the Authority of Grassroots Information and External Relation Information, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ngo Thanh Hien emphasized that the exhibition is a communication activity to implement the Project "Promoting propaganda on plastic waste prevention and control in the period 2021 - 2025" approved by the Prime Minister in 2021. 

Through photos and documents, viewers are provided with information about the harmful effects of plastic waste and plastic bags on the economy, society, environment and human health. Thereby, contributing to raising awareness and responsibility of the community to change the habit of using plastic bags and disposable plastic products and gradually switch to using environmentally friendly products, collecting and recycling plastic products, towards a circular economy, green economy and green growth.

The photo exhibition to promote plastic waste prevention and control has 5 main topics, including: Current status of plastic waste pollution, origin of plastic waste and causes of pollution, consequences of plastic waste, solutions to reduce plastic waste pollution,

Accordingly, the topic of plastic waste pollution highlights the huge scale of plastic waste pollution worldwide and is causing serious consequences for the environment and social life globally. Vietnam is one of 20 countries with a large amount of waste, about 1.8 million tons of plastic waste per year, higher than the world average.

Next, the topic of the origin of plastic waste and the cause of pollution explains that the pollution problem is not caused by the plastic products themselves but by the improper use and disposal of plastic waste.

In addition, the topic of consequences of plastic waste emphasized that plastic waste is very difficult to decompose, exists for hundreds to thousands of years, changes the physical properties of the soil, causes erosion and affects the growth of crops, animals and plants.

With the theme of solutions to reduce plastic waste pollution, calling on each citizen to raise their sense of responsibility, change their habits, say no to single-use plastic products and nylon bags, switch to using environmentally friendly products and actively participate in communication activities.

Finally, the topic on organizations and individuals actively working in preventing and combating plastic waste pollution, introducing typical examples in Vietnam and around the world that have action plans and propaganda to join hands in preventing and combating plastic waste.

Ph.D. Le Trung Kien, Vice Rector of Kien Giang College, shared that the collection of 100 propaganda photos introducing the prevention and fight against plastic waste is a profound message sent to the community about the responsibility to protect the environment. Each work is a perspective, a story, a warning against the reality of plastic pollution. Some paintings show the harsh destruction of the environment when it is damaged, while others instill in viewers the belief in regeneration and hope for a green - clean - sustainable planet. Through this exhibition, the school hopes that students will turn the conveyed messages into actions in their daily lives such as: Limiting the use of disposable plastic products; properly classifying waste; preserving the green - clean - beautiful landscape on campus; proactively spreading the green lifestyle to family, friends and the surrounding community,... contributing to creating great changes for the environment.

Student Nguyen Thi Ngoc Han, class 9 in Tourism English, Faculty of Tourism - Foreign Languages, Kien Giang College, expressed that the exhibition on propaganda against plastic waste helps students broaden their knowledge and raise awareness about the problem of plastic waste - a major challenge for the environment today. Students learn, experience and more importantly, are inspired to change their daily behavior. The vivid images and messages from the exhibition contribute to orienting each student's sense of responsibility to the community and the planet. Students join hands to protect the environment, keep the school environment green - clean - beautiful, become propagandists, contributing to bringing the message "Say no to plastic waste" to more people.

It is known that after the end of this exhibition, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will transfer this set of photo documents to the Department of Culture and Sports of An Giang in order to continue organizing propaganda activities to prevent and combat plastic waste in the province./.
