During the ceremony, delegates and people from all over the country offered incense at the statue of Nguyen Trung Truc, demonstrating their respect and deep reverence for the national hero who sacrificed himself for the cause of fighting against foreign invaders and protecting the country.
With fervent patriotism and deep hatred towards the enemy, Nguyen Trung Truc, a young fisherman, rallied his troops and joined forces with talented individuals to participate in the uprising led by Truong Cong Dinh in Go Cong. In 1861, he led his troops to achieve a resounding victory by burning the French ship Esperance on the Nhat Tao River. In 1867, he returned to Hon Chong to build up his forces.
In 1868, despite being imprisoned, tortured, and facing death, he stood tall with heroic spirit and boldly declared to the enemy: "When the Westerners uproot all the grass of our country, then the Southerners will stop fighting." Even though he passed away, his legacy lives on in history, forever in the hearts of the people of An Giang, the Mekong Delta, and the entire country.
The traditional festival commemorating the 157th anniversary of national hero Nguyen Trung Truc's sacrifice will take place from October 17 to 19 (falling on the 26th to 28th of the 8th lunar month). The ceremony, conducted according to traditional rituals, will be held at the di tích đình (communal house) and Nguyen Trung Truc Statue Park, featuring floral offerings, flag-raising, incense offering, and Te Dan Ca ceremony. This event also serves as an opportunity to educate locals and tourists about the nation's patriotic traditions, national pride, and promote Kien Giang's cultural and tourism image.

At the ceremony, An Giang Provincial Party Committee member and Vice Chairman of the People's Committee, Le Trung Ho, read the ceremonial address. In it, he recalled that 157 years ago, on a late autumn morning in 1868, in Rach Gia - Kien Giang (now An Giang province), national hero Nguyen Trung Truc bravely stepped onto the execution grounds. Surrounded by French enemies and amidst the sobbing of the villagers, Nguyen Trung Truc remained calm, his eyes shining, and his voice echoed loudly in the Rach Gia market: 'When the Westerners uproot all the grass of our country, then the Southerners will stop fighting.' This statement was like an oath, a declaration of patriotism, and an eternal call that has awakened the spirit of resistance of the Vietnamese people for over a century.
Nguyen Trung Truc is remembered for two glorious victories that inspired the people of Southern Vietnam, demonstrating his military prowess, leadership skills, and unyielding spirit./.
